| Xinyang is a very important city in the south of Henan province (113o45'-115o55'E,30o23'-32o27N) Based on the anterior plentiful investigation and literatures,the geographical compositions and the characteristics of the landscape plants in Xinyang city were studied,and their speciality were also analyzed at the family,genus,and species level respectively.The results were as following:1.The landscape plants are abundant in Xinyang. In this region there are 545 species,251 genera and 98 families in landscape plants,which include 54 species,18 genera and 7 families in gymnosperm and 491 species,233 genera and 91 families in angiosperm.There are 446 species,209 genera and 83 families in dicotyledon and 45 species, 24 genera and 8 families in monocotyledon among the angiosperm.2.The dominant families are the Rosaceae, Cupressaceae, Oleaceae, Papilionaceae, Gramineae, Compositae, Caprifoliaceae, Liliaceae, Pinaceae, Magnoliaceae, Salicaceae, Celastraceae and so on..3.The most of the landscape plants belong to temperate zone types,and some belong to subtropical zone types. The characteristic of a clear transitional.This is consistent with natural geographic location at the north sub-tropical to warm temperate zones of transition.4. The types of natural flora is only about 1/4,the non-natural floristic composition have an advantage in the landscape plants in Xinyang. We should consider the cultivation of domesticated species to the local natural flora in order to rich landscape and enhance the adaptability of landscape plants.At the same time we should increase the proportion of vines and herbaceous plants in order to form rich and varied landscape.5. In the process of introduction and cultivation of garden plants and the choice of plant species ,chose the species which are suitable for the local climate and soil conditions in order to reduce the cost of cultivation and management and form the beautiful landscape quickly.
