The Research Of Bird Resources Of Shanghai Wetland

Shanghai locates on the bank of the Long River and the coast of the East China Sea. It also locates on the way which migratory birds of the Asian-Pacific region must pass by. Plenty of foods, wetlands and climate in Shanghai attract tens of thousands migratory birds every year.There are vast areas of wetlands and affluent bird resources in Shanghai and many kinds of research papers, academic thesis about waterfowls in Shanghai wetlands published up to now. However, these documents published long time ago and it's hard to avoid observing, identifying or recording faults. With the development of ornithology research, some species names have changed; some subspecies have been redefined as species. So it's necessary to review and sort these old documents and add new data into them so that we could grasp the knowledge of waterfowls in Shanghai wetlands, strengthen supervising them, protect and study them better. That's the reason I choose this aspect as my thesis.The investigation of bird resources started from February 2007 to December 2009. According to previous documents and my research results, I've done the jobs as follows:1. Recorded 125 species belonging to 10 orders and 18 families, including 2 first-grade state protection species and 10 second-grade state protection species.2. Reviewed and corrected previous documents about waterfowls in Shanghai wetlands, analyzed bird fauna and its features.3. Made up bird index, depicted bird features, made an epitome of structure of bird community and habitat features of waterfowls in Shanghai wetlands. 4. Analyzed the problems waterfowls faced and raised the corresponding protection measures.
