Wetlands protection is an important constituent of the national ecologicalsecurity system. It has great significance in the maintenance of ecological balance, theimprovement of ecological status, the establishment of ecologically balanced livingspace, and thesustainable development of social economy. This paper explores the protection and restoration of the geological relics and theecological system of Qilihai Wetland. A geological analysis on the formation, featuresand evolution of oyster reefs, shell dykes, linear mounds, and paleo-coastlinesinQilihai Wetland was made, and their distributionwas determined, thus providingreliable data for their scientific protection. Through data analysis, investigation andfield inspection, the present situation of the geological relics protection and thevariation of the species and amounts of the plants and animals in Qilihai Wetlandwasascertained. The OECD Pressure-State-Response (PSR) framework was employed toanalyze the ecological vulnerability of Qilihai Wetland, and a conclusion was arrivedat that most part of Qilihai Wetland is of medium-level vulnerability. An assessmentsystem for the present protection wasalso established for Qilihai Wetland, and itscomprehensive evaluation wasconductedwith the analytic hierarchy process. From theaspects of geological relic restoration, water system management and plantsrestoration, tactics and specific programs of protecting the geological relics andecological system in Qilihai Wetland were initiated. The originalwork in this paper includes:(1)A geologicalanalysis is made on the geological relics in Qilihai Wetland toreveal their value for landscape.(2)A complete, objective and scientific assessment system is established toevaluate comprehensively Qilihai Wetland protection with the analytic hierarchyprocess.(3)A unique system of scientific protection and restoration of Qilihai Wetlandis formulated on the basis of analyzing comprehensively its present situation, andcorresponding programs are initiated.
