Underground pipelines are important components of urban infrastructure, and which offer major information in the urban programming, construction and management. Urban underground pipelines are just like the "nervous" and "vascular" of human body, which transmit information and transport energy. It is the material basis of the urban's development and is called "lifeline". It has great realistic and far-reaching significance to set up UPGIS which is called urban "lifeline", to meet people's daily life and social development.On the basis of introducing the concept and the present development condition of the urban geographic information system, This thesis indicates that the urban underground pipeline network GIS is an important part of UGIS, and analyses the current management actuality, clarifies the necessity and superiority that applying spatial database technique and SDE to the management of urban underground pipeline network. This paper introduces the basic concept of spatial database, then analyses emphatically ESRI' s ArcSDE which can integrate spatial data and attribute data.The underground pipeline network data organization and the database design are the premise and foundation of building up the underground integrated pipeline network GIS, and spatial database design is the core of the development and design of underground integrated pipeline network GIS. The thesis introduces the contents and method of the pipeline network data organization. Most of current underground pipeline network use file-relation data models. For those shortages that these models have in the data management and network spatial analysis, the paper puts forward a method that realizes the integrative management of spatial data and property data of underground pipeline network by combining ArcSDE with Oricle database which using Geodatabase spatial data model. On base of which the paper designs integrated underground pipeline network data modle and data structure, then gives two directions of database optimization.The thesis focuses on the overall design of the urban underground pipeline network integrated GIS and the design and implementation of the function modules. The thesis discusses the principle and target of system overall design, and then completes the system total structure design, graphic display, edit, search, section analysis, spatial measurement, statistical forms output and so on according to the system total target, the design principle and the customer demand.Section analysis and bursting analysis is two of the important spatial analysis functions of underground pipeline network integrated GIS. The thesis mainly discusses these work process,functional task, and implement methods. Problems such as graphics displaying, the generating of dynamic scales and graduations are analyzed in this article too.The paper also gives application examples of bursting analysis.At last, the author summarizes the main job and puts forward the work need to do in the future.
