Excellent teaching material is one of the important conditions for training talented men. In the 21st century, a batch of characteristic mainstream teaching material has emerged. The new scene of contention of various schools of thoughts has been displayed in the teaching material marketplace. In the increasing international communication, domestic educators are paying more attention to referring to the successful experience which is acquired from the construction of American teaching material. At first, the developing history of Chinese and American physical teaching material for engineering has been introduced. The feature and shortage about the teaching material have been analyzed from the perspectives of learning and teaching. Second, two series which are popular in respective home have been specially selected. They have been studied from both horizontal and vertical views. The teaching material Physics (from the 2th to 5th edition) compiled by Ma Wenwei and its feature have been studied. It is the same to the teaching material Jundamentals of physics (2th, 5th, 6th edition) compiled by Halliday. The developing trend and its difference of teaching material both Chinese and American have been analyzed. The feature which is worth referring in the American teaching material has been found by comparing the teaching materials between Physics (5th edition) compiled by Ma Wenwei and fundamentals of physics (6th edition) compiled by Halliday. At last, based on the results of investigation and interview, some suggestions have been made which are maybe helpful for the ordinary institutes to compile the teaching material.
