Physics is the foundation of the entire natural sciences, and especially is the fountainhead on which the modern engineering technology was established. Along with the fast development and the huge achievements of the physics, its fundamental function to the research and development for other discipline domains is becoming more and more obvious. Currently the contemporary pedagogy and psychology have also gained new development. Many new theories which are about the education and study have been raised on the basis of the old ones. They are more suitable to the present age, and they are the rationales and also the fresh requests to the modern education and teaching reforms. In the view of the situation, it is very necessary to reform the college physics teaching which is taken as the basic engineering course.At the present stage, the situation for college physics teaching in our country is unoptimistic, and there are one-sided views and inappropriate practices to the function, teaching proportion and respect degree for this course. The overall level of college physics teaching in local engineering university is not so high. Therefore the aim of this thesis is to do some specific work to the reform of teaching content in order to give some modest contributions to improve the college physics teaching.Through the research of the theory and the practice, the main results which this article obtains are: Firstly, the direction of the content reform has been examined which is conformed to the modern educational regular rules and suitable to the situation of the college physics teaching: (1) To guarantee the depth and the width of the teaching contents and to show the systematicness and integrity of the physical system; (2) To modernize the teaching contents for college physics; (3) To highlight the service function for the engineering profession. Secondly, the specific reformed practices has been researched and summarized; the physical quantity and regular rules of the electric circuit have been derived from the physical quantity and theories of the electromagnetic field, combining the content of electromagnetics in College Physics and some related engineering professions. Thirdly, the reform for combining the teaching content for college physics and some specific engineering professions is considered and reflected preliminarily.This thesis is illustrated on the basis which the predecessors have studied. Some viewpoints are not proposed for the first time, but they have some unique merits in innovation: Firstly, the entire research is under the instruction of the modern pedagogy and the psychology theories and aimed at closely the practical situation of the college physics teaching in the local engineering universities. Secondly, the paper has carried on the comprehensive elaboration and thorough analysis to the reform direction and has enumerated the correspondent examples which make the viewpoints of this article even more concrete and visual and the practice more convenient to be operated. Thirdly, the main content of the fourth chapter is the result of teaching reform combining the electromagnetic field in the College Physics and the circuit theories in the engineering profession; this part can prove this article's viewpoints by the concrete examples.The first chapter in the paper is the research for the higher education and the physical education in the new times, through which we can find the reasons and the dynamic force from the root for the reform for college physics teaching and draw the conclusion that the college physics teaching must be reformed. The second chapter is the research of the theory and the policy, which are the basis of the reform of college physical contents. The third and the fourth chapter are respectively the research achievements in theories and the practice.
