Aves is one of the most important biological groups of the vertebrate. It plays an important role in keeping the balance of nature, biological controllment, etc. Aves diversity is one of the most important components of the biodiversity.Shahu Wetland Nature Reserve lies in Xiantao Municipality, which is in the south-east of Hubei Province. It is a shallow, reedy lake, and lies in the middle branch of Yangtazi River. It is an ideal site for some birds to breed and inhabit. Some researchers have studied on the basic resources of Shahu Wetland Nature Reserve, but there are no systematic investigations and biodiversity analyses about Aves. Consigned by Hubei propagation-protecting chief station, the survey on the Aves of Shahu Wetland Nature Reserve, Hubei embarked on during 2006—2007, some suggestions have been put forward.185 species of birds, which belong to 15 orders and 38 families, were recorded in Shahu Wetland Nature Reserve, Hubei. Type of geographical distribution, ecotype of birds and key protected birds were studied. Of them, there are 104 progenitive species(45 summer migrant species and 59 residents), 81 non-progenitive species(68 winter migrant species and 13 travellers). There are 99 palaearctic species, 57 oriental species and 29 cosmopolitan species. 28 species are nationly-protected birds, in which 2 species and 26 species are listed respectively in the First and Second Category of State Key Protected Wildlife List. 46 species are provincially protected birds. 32 species are listed in the list of CITES (2 species in appendix I, 22 species in appendix II and 8 species in appendix III). 14 species are listed in the list of China Red Data Book of Endangered Animals, in which there are 2 endangered species, 5 rare species, 5 vulnerable species and 2 indefinite species. 84 species and 24 species are listed respectively in the list of China-Japan Agreement for protection of Migratory Birds and China-Australia Agreement for protection of Migratory Birds. There are four communities of birds in Shahu Wetland Nature Reserve, Hubei. The composition, community biodiversity, evenness indices and similarity of communities are analyzed. In spring, there are 3 species of the most important ones and 11 species of the secondary important ones. 15 species are the cosmopolitan distribution birds, 29 species the moderate distribution and 42 species the narrow distribution. In summer, there are 6 species of the most important ones and 14 species of the secondary important ones. 11 species are the cosmopolitan distribution birds, 18 species the moderate distribution and 27 species the narrow distribution. In autumn, there are 2 species of the most imporant ones and 24 species of the secondary important ones. 16 species are the cosmopolitan distribution birds, 27 species the moderate distribution and 96 species the narrow distribution. In winter, there are 9 predominant species, 2 commonly-seen species, 7 seldom-seen species and 41 rare species.According to the Shannon-Wiener diversity indices, the affluent degree of bird community of spring from highest to lowest is reed's, woods's, water-area's, farmland's. Summer's from highest to lowest is reed's, woods's, water-area's, farmland's. Autumn's from highest to lowest is reed's, water-area's, woods's, farmland's. The correlative significance between the amount of bird species and the Shannon-Wiener indices is obvious (| r | =0.755** , P<0.01). The correlative significance between the amount of bird species and the Pielou indices isn't obvious ( | r | =0.077ns, P>0.05). The correlative significance between the Pielou and the Shannon-Wiener indices isn't obvious ( | r | =0.549ns, P>0.05) .From the G—F indices, the diversity of birds' communities from highest to lowest isautumn's(0.8048), winter's(0.7058), spring's(0.7036), summer's(0.6472). The Gdiversity indices show strongly correlative significance to F diversity indices( | r | =0.994**, P=0.006) ; The amount of bird species, G diversity indices and Fdiversity indices all shows dim correlative significance to G—F indices. The similarity analysis of Jaccard index indicates that the highest similarity in different seasons are between farmland's and woods's (0.2500) in spring, beteween farmland's and reed's (0.2000) in summer, beteween farmland's and wood's (0.1778) in autumn.By statistical analysis to Circus Lacepeede, hen harrier accounts all the highest of RB (0.481) and ADC (1.47) , marsh harrier accounts the highest of PIE (0.1522) .At last, the approaches of the measurement of ecosystem diversity are discussed, the actuality of Aves resource is analyzed, the conservation measures and the vista of the future research are proposed.
