In China the history of modern distance education (MDE) is not very long, while the MDE supplied for incumbent teachers in biology major just began three years ago. So it is imperious to study the related theory and practice. This research is based on such a background, aiming at discussing the effectiveness of the Modern Distance and Normal Education in Biology Major (MD&NEBM) and its influential factors. Also, it will give reference for building a more effective pattern of MDE in biology and setting up a high efficiency training teachers system.With the guidance of distance education theories, learning theories of adult and blended learning theories, by taking the first batch of students who have learned the normal distance course in ECNU (East China Normal University) as main research objects, the study focuses on the effectiveness of MD&NEBM through the comparison of horizontal and vertical. At the same time, its main influential factors are concluded by means of statistics analysis. On above basis, the problems and shortcomings existed in the MD&NEBM are pointed out, and also we proposal corresponding suggestions which can be used as references for the development of MD&NEBM.The thesis check the fruitages of the learning by MD&NEBM in objective and subjective aspects and the conclusions are as following: (1) the MD&NEBM can improve the learners' information emotion, information knowledge level and information action ability: (2) the MD&NEBM is helpful to the learners in extending their teaching contents, establishing the school-based courses, launching extracurricular biology activities, taking part in competitions, improving teaching ability and comprehending the idea of current curriculum; (3) the learners who study modern distance biology courses can gain the similar subject achievement scores as traditional students, and reach the goal of undergraduate education.Also the thesis does the further research into the probable factors which influence the effectiveness of MD&NEBM. And correlation analysis indicates that the primary factor which influences the effectiveness of MD&NEBM is teaching stations, the second factor is the learners' attitudes towards homework, and the third factor is professional title and years of teaching of...
