If the universities could develop people of ability depends on an excellent andsound university education, and the importance of mathematics education should notbe ignored. First of all, as an instrumental basic subject, its technicality is with nopossibility of doubt, and mathematics has penetrated into almost all kinds of fields ofresearch now, so not only sciences and engineering, but also economics、finance、arts、sports、geography、history、military affairs、politics、even literature and law containthe theories and methods of mathematics everywhere. The progress and developmentof society cannot be kept without mathematics. In addition, the science ofmathematics has some characteristics such as highly abstract、precise、being usedwidely and beautiful. Because of this, the maths scholars or someone who is good atmaths generally have a high ability of abstract thinking、deal with things steadily andlogically、stand out of the crowd easily, and are good at finding beauty in life, whichbenefits from mathematical thinking and mathematical quality formed bymathematics knowledge.Since ancient times, human civilization has been inherited from age to age andkept carrying forward with the help of education. During this time, math has beeneverywhere, and played a irreplaceable role of promoting the progress of civilization.Therefore, just because the education of mathematics is sustaining, science andtechnology、society and economy which are based on math could develop well.As time went on, mathematics is inherited as a kind of culture. The same as othercultures, mathematical culture also has the attributes that all cultures have, and it alsohas its feature such as highly abstract. As a special modality of culture, mathematicswent through quite a long time, so sometimes it thrived, and sometimes it waned, butthe history tells us: the ancient Greece advocated rational thinking, and attached great importance to math, thus it was prosperous; the ancient Rome was autocratic、domineering、and despised math, which leaded to the decline of its culture. People hasrealized that it was because of mathematics that the development of humancivilization was promoted, so today the society pays more and more attention tomathematics. People who learned maths enrich their knowledge、exercise theirthinking and improve their overall quality from mathematics, while people who neverlearned maths also largely benefit from mathematical culture in life invisibly, as manydetails of daily life contain the rigorous mathematical logic.The education of Chinese primary schools and middle schools is one-sided andrigid on account of the examination-oriented education, but the universities don’t havethe pressure, and this time is the key period for the formation of view of life、valueand view of world for a person’s life, so the university education is particularlyimportant. All-sided mathematics education can make a person’s comprehensivequality improved, and the whole society culture can become exact and simple,developed and beautiful.Above of all, the quality function and cultural value of the mathematicseducation in the university education is indelible. Only under the aegis ofmathematics education, human civilization just would continue thriving.
