This thesis applied the methodology and principles of the floristic geography, also based on the composition and phytogeographic elements of the species, genera and families is to Shanxi province, to comparative study among the flora of Shanxi, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Shanxi, Henan and Inner Mongolia. The results are as follows: The plant diversity is abundant in this area. There are 2576 species of seed plants in Shanxi province, which belong to 816 genera and 143 families (exclusion from cultivated plants). Among them are about 28 species, 13 genera, 6 families, in Gymnospermeae;2548 species, 803 genera and 137 families, in Angiosperm, which demonstrates to distribution of plants in Shanxi province in adaptation to this climate zonein the area. The 816 genera are devided into 15 types and 16 subtypes of geographical elements. Analysis of the floristic composition and the geographical elements shows that the flora has a complex composition. Temperate floristic elements which belong to 1540 species and 410 genera make significant dominant in this area, in which the percentage of North Temperate genera is the highest, making up 25.5% in the total number of genera in this area. It is indicated that this area showes the typical temperate characteristics of the flora. The endemic elements are unbalanced. There are 1049 species Chinese endemic species of seed plants in Shanxi province, making up 41.5% in the total number of species in this area. While there are only 24 genera Chinese endemic genera of seed plants in Shanxi province, among them, 21 genera are single species genera and 3 genera are with only a few species. There areobvious permeation, intersection, transition and frangibility of the flora. As shown by the clustering analysis of geographical elements, the flora of Shanxi province has a close relationship with Hebei province and Beijing city. Next closest flora is Inner Mongolia. Meanwhile, the floristic characteristics of Shanxi were found relative different from that of the neibouring Shaanxi, Henan province, and the more remote Shandong province.
