Manufacturing industry driving economic growth plays a significant role in national economy,based on which we build up and strengthen our country.The integration of digital technology and the real economy provides new momentum for improving quality,reducing costs,increasing efficiency,and transforming and upgrading the manufacturing industry,which is the consistent strategic main line of our country to promote the new industrialization.Industry 4.0 technology improves China’s infrastructural level from "made in China" to "intelligent manufacturing in China",opening the era of intelligence.The new situation requires new methodologies paths and policies to build a strong material and technological foundation for Chinese modernization.Manufacturing enterprises should adapt to the digitization development,utilize industrial data,integrate digital technology and business,lending fresh impetus to the intelligent enterprise operation.In the process of digital transformation,enterprises have to deal with resistance and friction from the existing industrial system,such as information islands,industrial chain and redundant supply chain.A series of fundamental questions remain unanswered.Is the mechanism of operational efficiency between in industrial economic paradigm and in digital economic paradigm the same,when realizing industry upgrading and transformation by digital business strategy ? If not,what is the critical path? How do manufacturing enterprises effectively use data,which is the new core production factor? Which capabilities should manufacturing companies develop to achieve operational efficiency? What catalytic role does the Industry 4.0 technology play in this context?Based on this,this study follows the research idea of "research question proposed-theoretical model construction-hypothesis demonstration test-research summary and prospect" to explore the influence mechanism of digital business strategy on the operational efficiency of manufacturing enterprises.This study takes manufacturing enterprises in the process of digital transformation as the research object,selecting six manufacturing enterprises conforming to the principles of industry typicality,research question adaptation,enterprise representation and convenient sampling case samples.Strategic Fit Theory,Resource-Based Theory,Dynamic Capabilities Theory and Socio-technical Systems Theory were comprehensively and extendedly applied.A theoretical framework is constructed including digital business strategy,resourcing with data,modularization capability,operational efficiency,and Industry 4.0 technologies maturity perception.The large sample questionnaire survey and statistical analysis method were used to carry out empirical test on 495 valid samples,based on twelve major hypotheses which are proposed based on theoretical analysis and relevant literature research.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Resourcing with data is a formative construct including three dimensions of data mapping,data connectivity and data leverage.The "resourcing with data" scale is developed as a second-order formative measurement scale with 16 items and 3 dimensions.(2)Resourcing with data and modularization capability play a recursive role in the process of improving the operational efficiency of manufacturing enterprises by digital business strategy.The research shows that:(1)Digital business strategy has a positive impact on the operational efficiency of manufacturing enterprises.(2)Resourcing with data and some of its dimensions and modularization capability partially mediate the impact of digital business strategy on the operational efficiency of manufacturing enterprises,while data mapping does not play a significant mediating role.(3)Resourcing with data and modularization capability as chain mediators in the positive impact of digital business strategy on the operational efficiency of manufacturing enterprises.(3)Industry 4.0 technologies maturity perception is the key boundary condition in the process of digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises.The research shows that:(1)Industry 4.0 technologies value perception positively moderates the relationship between digital business strategy and resourcing with data and its three dimensions.Industry 4.0technologies value perception moderates the chain mediating role of resourcing with data and modularization capability between digital business strategy and operational efficiency of manufacturing enterprises by reinforcing the positive effect of digital business strategy on resourcing with data and its three dimensions.(2)The moderating effect of Industry 4.0technologies visibility perception on the relationship between digital business strategy and resourcing with data and its three dimensions is not significant,and similarly,the moderated chain mediation effect of Industry 4.0 technologies visibility perception is also not significant.The main innovation of this study are as follows:(1)Based on the digital transformation context of manufacturing industry,this paper takes the data governance behavior of manufacturing enterprises as the focus of research,deeply deconstructs the constituent dimensions of resourcing with data,develops the multidimensional scale of resourcing with data for the first time,and empirically tests its role effect in acquiring the operational efficiency of manufacturing enterprises to deepen the related research on the value of industrial data.(2)Based on the recent advances in strategic fit theory,this paper innovatively emphasizes the strategic significance and connotation of the concept of digital business strategy,which not only highlights the importance of utilizing data resources for business vision,but also strengthens the logic of integration between digital technology and business strategy,and provides an effective starting point for opening up the black box of the process.Meanwhile,based on the effective integration of resource-based theory and dynamic capability theory,the process mechanism model of "digital business strategy-resourcing with data-modularization capability-operational efficiency in manufacturing enterprises" is constructed.The theoretical path of the impact of digital business strategy on the operational efficiency of manufacturing enterprises is deeply portrayed.(3)This paper introduces the latest Industry 4.0 technology practices in the manufacturing industry,and based on socio-technical systems theory and the value-visibility framework,explores the catalytic effect of Industry 4.0technologies maturity perception on the digital transformation process of manufacturing enterprises,which not only skillfully covers the interaction between social and technological factors,but also pioneers the consideration of both sides of the technology,i.e.,the simultaneous incorporation of Industry 4.0 technologies value perception and Industry 4.0 technologies visibility perception,which broadens the research horizons of Industry 4.0-related technological context,and explores its boundary utility for the digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises in a more complete way.The beneficial practical enlightenment of this study for industrial 4.0 technology suppliers,the government and manufacturing enterprises are as follows:(1)The manufacturing enterprises which are undergoing digital transformation should establish data-oriented awareness and attach importance to data governance to help smart operations.(2)The manufacturing enterprises should do a good job in top-level strategic planning guided by business needs,make data resources an important basis for intelligent operation through close integration of business and technology,make modularization design and application accelerate the reshaping of enterprise operation mode,systematically develop the smooth channel of data application and modularization transformation,and finally realize digital intelligent operation with lower cost,better products and better services.(3)Technology suppliers,manufacturing enterprises which are undergoing digital transformation and the government should jointly create a technology environment with High-tech values and Low-tech encroachment.Above all,relying on Major Project of the National Social Science Foundation of China "Research on Digital Intelligence Transformation and International Competitiveness Enhancement of China’s Manufacturing Industry"(Grant No.22&ZD101),The purpose of this study is to explore the influence mechanism of digital business strategy on the operational efficiency of manufacturing enterprises,which is forward-looking and breakthrough.The conclusion of this paper has important theoretical contributions to deepening the research on data value in the field of information system research,developing the internal mechanism of realizing technological transformation and improving the operational efficiency of enterprises,and enriching the research situation of enterprise operation management under the background of digital transformation.This paper will guide Chinese enterprises to release the "imprisoned" industrial data value and participate in industrial technological innovation in the process of digital transformation,helping China manufacturing enterprises to achieve excellent operation.Further,the study will provide scientific and practical methodological reference for new industrialization and the revitalization of the old industrial base in Northeast China,and help China to move towards Digital China and Manufacturing Power.
