At present, under the deep integration of digital technology and the real economy, the economic model and business form have undergone comprehensive changes, and the digital transformation of Chinese manufacturing enterprises is imminent. In an era of digital trends, timely digital transformation of businesses can optimize the structure of the business, improve efficiency and productivity, and improve business performance. However,in the process of transformation, enterprises found that although they had invested a lot of time, energy, financial, material and human resources and regarded them as the core of strategy, they still did not achieve the desired results and even had side effects. It can be seen that for the manufacturing industry, digital transformation is a long-term process, which needs to complete the combination of traditional business and modern information technology, and puts forward higher requirements for the capabilities and qualities of enterprises.Enterprises are faced with various thorny problems in the practice of digital transformation, and the dilemma of not daring to change is prominent. As the uncertainty of the external environment continues to increase, how can enterprises carry out digital transformation in a timely manner and build sustainable competitive advantage through transformation? The above issues have become the focus of the government, industry and academia. The thesis is mainly divided into three parts: First, based on the literature review, the relevant concepts and theoretical research status of digital transformation are clarified, and the research gap is found in combination with the practical difficulties of enterprises;Secondly,it analyzes the necessary conditions of environmental complexity, absorptive capacity, innovation capacity, adaptability and frequency of strategic change, and analyzes whether a trigger factor is a necessary condition for the high maturity digital transformation of enterprises. Then, based on the dynamic capability perspective, using the sample of Chinese listed enterprises, the thesis uses the fs QCA fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis to explore the configuration joint effect of the above five conditions on the digital transformation of enterprises, that is,the digital transformation path problem; Finally, with the help of the propensity score matching method,we further test whether the high maturity digital transformation of enterprises triggered by different paths can improve enterprise performance, that is,the aftereffect problem. The research findings are as follows: First, according to the case analysis of the net effect of different triggering factors on the driving path,it is found that there are no factors that constitute the necessary conditions for high maturity digital transformation;Secondly,in the process of digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises, based on the different coupling degree at the structural level, the capabilities that need to be shaped at the organizational level are also different.Taking the frequency of strategic change and dynamic capabilities as two dimensions of analysis,it is found that the following four configurations can lead to high maturity digital transformation, namely, efficient innovation, blind innovation, robust innovation, and robust adaptation;Thirdly, based on the path to deconstruct the black box of the role of digital transformation on the performance of manufacturing enterprises,it is found that the impact of high-level digital transformation of different configurations on enterprise performance is significantly different. The results show that efficient innovation and robust innovation can help enterprises gain and maintain competitive advantages, while robust adaptation has no significant impact on enterprise performance, while blind innovation will have a negative impact on enterprises.
