The beginning of the new century witnessed the arrival of the era of “new new media” defined by Paul Levinson,which simultaneously started the era of online audiovisual in China.Since then,the online variety shows in China has emerged.The network variety shows stand out from the internet cultural ecology and attract people’s attention by virtue of their innovative ideas,diversified themes,personalized content,audio-visual style for the young,highly participative interactive mode,and flexible and diverse production and broadcast modes.After 20 years of development,Chinese online variety shows have embarked on a path of rise,innovation,and prosperity.In the process of continuous exploration and creation,Chinese online variety shows have always been rooted in the development of digital media.With an open and inclusive mind,and nurtured by multiculturalism,they have formed their own unique cultural landscape.As an attempt to theorize practice and an intersection of multidisciplinary research,this dissertation starts from the context of contemporary Chinese social and technological progress and cultural development,starts with the holistic concept of Chinese online variety shows,and focuses on their development history over the past20 years.Based on the perspective of technological and cultural symbiosis,this dissertation,by comprehensively utilizing methods of literature analysis,text analysis,and case analysis,conducts in-depth and systematic research on the cultural construction of Chinese online variety shows under the ecological transformation,aiming to explore the internal relationship and construction logic between media technology,multiculturalism,human cultural needs,and the content production,morphological innovation,production transformation,communication expansion,and acceptance changes of Chinese online variety shows.On this basis,the article explores the future prospects for the integration and development of virtual reality media and Chinese online variety shows.This study is not only an innovative exploration of the research perspective of online variety shows in China,but also an academic focus and theoretical response to the practical transformation of online variety shows in China.Specifically,this dissertation is mainly divided into the following five parts.The first part is about the transformation of digital ecology and the formation and development of Chinese online variety shows.Starting with exploring the origin of the ecological transformation of Chinese online variety shows,this dissertation examines the formation of the digital ecological environment from the perspective of technological and cultural symbiosis,and under this framework,conducts a detailed review of the conceptual definition and development history of Chinese online variety shows.This article,taking the evolution of media as the main line,divides the development history of Chinese online variety shows over the past 20 years into four stages.Combined a large number of typical cases,it carefully analyzes and combs the historical context of the formation and development of Chinese online variety shows,to gain insight into the inextricable connection between the digital ecological transformation and the development of Chinese online variety shows.The second part is about the interaction and symbiosis of technology,culture,and people: the cultural construction of Chinese online variety shows.Underlying the formation and development of Chinese online variety shows is the interaction and symbiosis of technology and culture,and people’s deep participation as well.The revelation of the cultural construction logic of Chinese online variety shows is an interpretation of the relationship between technology,culture,people,and online variety shows.It reflects not only a profound understanding of the development laws of Chinese online variety shows,but also a deep investigation of the internal trajectory of the formation and development of Chinese online variety shows.Therefore,this dissertation,from the symbiosis theory of technology and culture,focuses on the shaping of Chinese online variety shows through media technology,the cultivation of cultural innovation in Chinese online variety shows through multiculturalism,and the leading role of people’s cultural needs on the development of Chinese online variety shows.We will discuss in depth the cultural construction of Chinese online variety shows by the three forces of technology,culture,and people.The third part is about integrating text and multiculturalism: the morphological transformation and content production of Chinese online variety shows.After 20 years of development,Chinese online variety shows have gradually formed a unique content and form under the construction of media technology,multicultural cultivation,and people’s participation.In terms of form,it presents a three-dimensional program form that combines hypertext,interactive text,and algorithmic recommendation text.In terms of subject matter and content,it presents vertical subdivision and deep cultivation of circles under the interest-based culture,diversified exhibition and interactive integration of sub cultural themes,and content logic and demand satisfaction under the consumer culture.In terms of the content expression,it gradually forms a unique style of spectacle,game,and life,which together constitutes the colorful cultural landscape of Chinese online variety shows.The fourth part is about participation,socialization,and experience: the production,dissemination,and acceptance of Chinese online variety shows.Under the technological empowerment,users have gained the right to participate in program production,dissemination,reproduction,and redistribution,transforming from traditional audiences to users.The empowerment of media technology and the users’ active participation constitute the participatory production,social communication,and experiential acceptance of Chinese online variety shows.This dissertation analyzes the participatory production of online variety shows in China from technology empowerment,calling structure,and users’ co-creation;then it explores the social communication of Chinese online variety shows from the aspects of social networks,chat topics,and interaction with fans;and it discusses the experiential acceptance of Chinese online variety shows from the aspects of context creation,emotional connection,and users’ engagement.The last part is about the virtual reality and imaginary wonders: the future of Chinese online variety shows.As an epoch-making remote interaction and immersive experience medium,virtual reality is another important image medium after the traditional Internet and mobile Internet.The deep integration of virtual reality media and online variety shows has formed a new form of virtual reality online variety shows,which has brought enormous imaginary space for the future development of online variety shows in China.Based on an in-depth analysis of the internal logic and laws of the development of online variety shows in China,this dissertation analyzes the morphological patterns,experience patterns,and realistic bottlenecks of virtual reality online variety shows,and explores the path and future prospects of Chinese online variety shows after the empowerment of virtual reality media.
