Media literacy education has become new trend of Chinese education accompanied by its globalization. After more than ten years of development, although having obtained some results in theory and practice, we are facing lots of difficulties and challenges. Based on summarizing the relationships among the successful experiences of foreign countries and other regions, Chinese tradition and contemporary practice systematically, this study is focused on "indigenization of media literacy education" and seeks for aim and path of indigenization.While doing research on indigenization of media literacy education, we need to make clear the relationships among indigenization, globalization and modernization; use indigenization of sociology, communication, pedagogy and the advanced experiences of other countries and regions as reference. The research demonstrates that indigenization of each subject all started from the problems of local practice and emphasize construction of theory system, academic staff and methodology. Likewise, media literacy education of other countries and regions all started from their media policy and attached great importance to combination of local problems and tradition in media literacy education.Indigenization of our country's media literacy education has gone through four periods:introduction and start, reference and growth, accumulation and promotion, reflection and differentiation. However, this research supports the view that there existed a long embryonic stage before media literacy education became a formal research area in China in 1997. After experienced indigenous adoption, indigenous growth and critical reflection, at the present time, media literacy education of China is moving towards innovation.Currently, indigenization of Chinese media literacy education is still having such problems as lacking in-depth understanding of relationships among foreign theory, Chinese tradition and contemporary practice; neglecting analysis of the special media policy and culture in China; and overlooking the Chinese tradition in media literacy education. Therefore, this dissertation argues that the indigenization of media literacy education theory in China should turn the perspective from historical and realistic to future, take "the impact of media on the people" as the logical starting point, target at originality and autonomy, make condition that form local consciousnesses, a batch of academic communities who will be engaged in indigenization research an correctly handling the relationships among foreign theory, Chinese tradition and contemporary practice, strive to achieve construction of dialogue with western countries in two ways, which are from abroad to home and from home to abroad.In terms of the indigenization of media literacy education, this research suggests that we should take the value of "positive and constructive protectionism", which means our goals should not only be protection but also appeal to positive construction and lay more emphasis on students'positive participation. In the case that media literacy education doesn't work well, family education and social education have attracted the attention of people increasingly. Family education has become main field of media literacy education due to its affectivity, pertinence and flexibility. At present, it is an important indigenized way to develop family medialiteracy education. According to the questionnare of students, their teachers and parents in 10 high schools of Nanjing, some important results and conclusions are as follows:students use media just to fulfill their needs of entertainment; parents have not paid enough attention to the children's media habits; students and parents' ability of analyzing and judging media information is low; parents'enthusiasm for participating in media activity is much lower than students'; parents play a significant role in media literacy education. Based on these results, in the progress of family media education, we should take the idea of quality education as foundation, focus on the improvement of parents' media literacy, take cultivating good manners of contacting media as man line, analyzing and evaluating ability as core, and strengthen the internet media literacy education.
