The study is based on the review of research achievements of Chinese museum education theory, including theory of education principle, status in quo of museum education and the influence from the digital technology. The goal of this study is to discuss the museum education in the digital era theoretically from the dimension of pedagogy and aims to focus on the times, positiveness, originality and independence. First of all, the concept of museum education is reinterpreted in the context of pedagogy. The fundamental purpose of the museum education is supposed to be moral education. At the same time, the elements of museum education,that is, educators, educated, and education intermediary system,is redefined. On this basis, the characteristics of the nature of museum education are discussed comprehensively. Secondly, the general characteristics of the digital era and the impact of digital technology on the museum education have been discussed in this study. According to the data of the Survey of Chinese museums' current situation and the public demand, the general status in quo and the existing problems have been perceived and analyzed from both aspects of theory and practice. The causes of all the problems are analyzed with rethinking the essential characteristics of museum education in digital era. It is argued that digital technology not only highlights the characteristics of the inherent essence of museum education, but also adds new characteristics to museum education. Finally, on the base of this conclusion, the advice are given to improve Chinese museum education both theoretically and practically.
