Zheng Qiao And Zhang Xuecheng’s Broad-sensed Emendation Research

The study of Emendation was developed by Liu Xiang and Liu Xin on Handynasty when they collected and reorganized ancient literatures, which played agreat role on the history of rearech and culture. We usually view the study ofEmendation from two points, one is broad-sensed emendation, which is composedof collation, bibliography, texture science, collection science etc. Another isnarrow-sensed emendation, which is just texture criticism. Now broad-sensedemendation has been divided into several relevant disciplinces in the system ofacademics, as a result, it is not easy to comprehend overally the study ofemendation’s framework, content system and ranges. This thesis is a guidline torecognize the borad-sensed study of emendation by reading and analyzing theemendation works of two great emendators. We draw a conclusion of theiremendation theory’s content, character, advantages and disadvantages byanalyzing and comparing their emendation thoughts and viewpoints. Though weall know that Zhang Xuecheng has inherited and innovated Zheng Qiao’semendation theory, we don’t know the clues of inheritage and the content ofinnovation. Therefore,we analyze these questions and criticized these twoemendators’contribution to Chinese academic history. It is significant for scholarsto recognize the content and value of ancient broad-sensed study of emendation.This thesis is composed of six sections. The first one is Introduction,explaining the reason and meaning of this subject, defining the emendation studyframework of Zhengqiao and Zhang Xuecheng, and summarizing the relevant researches. We ensure that Zhengqiao and Zhang Xuecheng’s emendation studybelong to broad-sensed emendation, which was including collation, bibliography,texture science and collection science and so on. The second one is Chapter I, wetrace to the source of Zheng Qiao and Zhang Xuecheng’s emendation study. As aresult, we find that their emendation study thought were affected by all the ancientemendators and bibliographers’ works, especially Liu Xiang and Liu Xin. Thethird and fourth section’s content is to explain and anlyze Zheng Qiao and ZhangXuecheng’ emendation works and outstanding emendation thoughts. The fifthsection is to draw the characteristics of Zheng Qiao and Zhang Xuecheng’semendation research and to clear the relationship of inheritage and innovationbetween two emendators. On the basis of three-section ancient emendationinheritage clue composed by Zhang Xuecheng, we recompose a four-section one.The sixth section is arguing the effect of Zhengqiao and Zhang Xuecheng’semendation study and what the role they played on the history. We now acceptand pass on their theories signifying that their emendation study works have beenviewed as academic classics.
