Zheng Qiao was not only a famous historian in Song Dynasty of China, but alsoan influential philologist. He has made outstanding contributions in the field ofphilology. Throughout Zheng Qiao’s life, he studied hard at a Cottage home from the16-year-old, and go through thirty years. Depending on astonishing perseverance andpersistent pursuit in hard work, he wrote books all of life and left behind a preciousspiritual wealth in the absence of teaching and the royal collection. Tongzhi, thecrystallization of Zheng Qiao’s lifelong effort, is a high academic value book. TheTwenty Outline is the most complacent parts and the essence of this book, especiallyjiaochoulue, yiwenlue, tupulue, jinshilue more fully reflect the idea of Qiao’sphilology. This paper on the basis of previous research, depending on the four outline,research and elaborate the idea of Qiao’s philology more thorough and meticulous,and meanwhile give simple evaluation on Qiao’s academic achievement and influence.This article consists of three parts:The first part includes Chapter1and2.Chapter1mainly combs Qiao’s familylife and works, in order to let the readers understand the great historian’s scholarlyspirit of treasuring time and writing endlessly. Despite lived in poverty, he hadpositive and optimistic attitude to life. Chapter2primarily discusses Qiao’s materialistview of history against the Disaster Cheung Weird doctrine. He inherited thetraditional view on writing general history, and advocated the innovative andpragmatic scientific spirit. This theory affected his idea of Qiao’s philology.The second part involves Chapter3, Chapter4and Chapter5, and this is the coreof the article. The author investigates the idea of Qiao’s philology from three aspectssuch as books collection, classification and bibliography. Zheng Qiao put forward toeight approaches to collect books, so as to widely seek more books; In order topreserve books better and clear academic origins, he broke the traditional libraryclassification methods, and divided books into three level twelve categories; As forthe bibliographic description, Zheng Qiao fight against the interpretation of nopractical value, and he considered the behavior of ChongWenZongMu was absurd. Sohe put forward to the principle of "book should be interpreted and in some casesshould not interpreted”, this approach can makes bibliographic description moreconcise and perfect. The third part mainly is the conclusion. In this part the author assess brieflyQiao’s achievements and influence on future generations.
