Pultizer Prize in Journalism is an important issue of both practical and academic value for the study of international journalism in China. Based on the theory of media ecology and applying historical, positive methods and case analysis , this dissertation makes a systematic study of the influence of the tragedy esthetics,multiculturialism, media economy and narratives on the Pultizer Prize for Feature Writing from the angle of multi-discipline .The conclusions of the study will be beneficial to the improvement of news reporting in China.The whole dissertation consists of forword,five chapters and conclusion.The first chapter is a brief introduction to the American news feature and Pultizer Prize for feature writing.Firstly,by discussing about the definions of feature,news feature and non-news feature,the study object of the dissertation is decided.Next the differences between news feature and news ,the human interest in news feature are also explored,from which we can see the character of American news feature .At the end of the chapter the history of American news feature is discussed under the guidance of the theory of media ecology.The second chapter is devoted to the study of tragedy esthetics in Pultizer Prize features.The author firstly points out the character of tragedy news reporting and the differences between tragedy news reporting and negative news reporting.All the Pultizer Prize features (1979-2008)are analysized to deepen the understanding of tragedy esthetics in Pultizer Prize features.The typical three types of tragedy esthetics in Pultizer Prize features are explored from the perspective of the theory of western tragedy esthetics.In the third chapter Pultizer Prize features are explored from the perspective of multiculturalism.The relation between American mass media, Pultizer Prize features and multiculturalism are studied.By case studying the influence of the Ameican multiculturalism upon Pultizer Prize features is clearly analysed.At the end of the chapter the author puts forward the study of multicultural report of Pultizer Prize features will benefit the improvement of similar news report in China.In the fourth chapter the Pultizer Prize features are explored from the perspective of media economy,namely how the highly commercialized American media economy exerts its influence on Pultizer Prize features.Firstly, the author analyses why large amount of time was spent on the material gathering of Pultizer Prize features, and by studying the relationship between the cost of news gathering and media competition,the author points out the reason why the reporters spent so much time on a feature lies in the the intense media competition in America, in which features,as unique news reporting is vital for the success of media competition .Lastly the two typical kinds of human interests and their reasons are also explored .The fifth chapter is about the narratives of Pultizer Prize features.How the new journalism influences the writing of Pultizer Prize features is explored in this chapter.The characters of literature narratives and journalism narratives and the narratives of Pultizer Prize features are discussed at first,followed by an exploration of the relation between the narrative character of Pultizer Prize features and new journalism.The high literary quality and originality is rooted in the influence of new journalism on Pultizer Prize features to a great degree.The conclusion chapter is a summary of the key points of the dissertation .The unique media ecology has great influence on the character of The Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing(1979-2008).
