Nearly A Decade Research On The Award-winning Commentary Words Of The Pulitzer Prize For Journalism

Named after Josepf·Pulitzer, the famous U.S. newspaper publisher, the Pulitzer Prizes has covered many fields like literature, history, music, drama etc. The award-winning works are honored as the most responsible writings and the most graceful words all around the US. Among all these awards, The Pulitzer Prizes for journalism, as the one with the largest percentage and the biggest impact, has the profound effect on every subject of American social life such as the press, journalism and even the politics, economy. This award not only examine the U.S. mainstream press, but also marks the development of the journalism and creates numerous new mindset for news report and thereby, makes the American news works move outside the U.S. to impact the world. Among a number of the Pulitzer Prizes for journalism, the commentary award, the one who has produced a powerful effect on the minds of the public, has drawn a great attention in the industry and has the relatively special identity. At present, throughout all the results of the award-winning works research for The Pulitzer Prize for journalism, there’s not any systematic research which has the direct correlation with our issue. There are still huge vacuum researches in macro, medium and micro fields. Aiming at these vacuum fields, this paper analyze the overview, themes, value orientation, ways of writing and language of the works based on the comprehensive and detailed study of the latest ten years award-winning works of the Pulitzer Prizes for commentary. This paper also explores the characters and shortages of American news comment and make use of its positive guiding role to avoid the disadvantages of the system and the shortages of the works. Thereby, there would be possible to provide the complementation between the Chinese and western media by doing the comparative analysis with those award-winning comment works of Chinese News Award. In this way, our domestic news comment would be possible to further bring its effectiveness and thus make Chinese media develop worldwide. In conclusion, it is with great academic values and practical implications to carry out the research on the Pulitzer Prize for commentary, not only for the transmission and research of American commentary or our domestic practice and innovation.
