Manufacturing enterprises must response to the changeful exterior requirements. Enterprises must redesign the business process that is clarity and spans product life cycle by information technology. The key to get this goal is to build a virtual product model for life cycle (VPMFLC). VPMFLC is a structural model that integrated all product information for life cycle. It is the core of information integration and process integration. Based on VPMFLC, the integration for CAx, PDM and ERP will become easy. The concept of VPMFLC was presented. The architecture of VPMFLC was built. The theory, method and application were researched.In the first chapter, the developing background of manufacturing enterprise was analyzed. Advanced manufacturing Technology, application of IT in the enterprise and the problems was summarized The relation between product model and this problems was given. Product model was categorized into product model for unit product model for CAx, virtual product model for digital prototyping and virtual product model for life cycle. The product model technology was summarized.In the second chapter, the concept of VPMFLC was researched. The three period of the product form process integration (process series, process chain and process flow) was analyzed. Process flow is a tendency. The importance of VPMFLC was discussed. The definition of VPMFLC was given. The architecture of VPMFLC was described by a three dimensional view. Properties, content and scope of VPMFLC were described in detail. It is other problem to integrate virtual product model, project model and workflow model. Their integration was presented based on describing project model and workflow model.In the third chapter, the theory of VPMFLC was researched. It must be in reason to structure product information. It provides the base to search, reuse, modify, and trace product information. The theory research of VPMFLC was presented by hypergraph. Evolution hypergraph net was introduced to formalize product process information for life cycle. The structures of product information were formalized by structural hypergraph. VPMFLC will be studied progressively by hypergraph.In the fourth chapter, the implement methods of VPMFLC were researched. The implement methods of VPMFLC were presented based on Article Characteristic Table (ACT). The product development and design process was analyzed. It was classified into three types of process: variant product develop, new product develop and rapid product design. The concept, theory and implement methods of master document and master structure was studied. It was given that the product master document and product master structure is the main components of VPMFLC.Based on standardization and normalization, product master document and product master structure described product views and their relations by ACT.In the fifth chapter, the integration's methods and application were researched based on VPMFLC. VPMFLC integrated product information logically. The distributed systems must be integrated. System integrated method and schema have many types, but this paper only studied the data structure between systems based on VPMFLC. The integrated data structure among CAx, PDM, and ERP was presented. The application research was implement by the integrated prototyping between SmarTeam PDM and SAP R/3 EPvP.In the sixth chapter, the application of VPMFLC was studied by steam turbine's cylinder. The properties and process of steam turbine development were analyzed. The development methods of steam turbine's cylinder were given. The master document and master structure of cylinder were built by Pro/E. The configure design of cylinder was realized. The concept, theory and implement methods were proved.The last chapter is conclusion and outlook. The achievements of the dissertation are summarized, and the innovations are pointed. The future research works are put forward to outlook.
