| Along with the continuous development of the multilateral trading system and economic globalization, trade facilitation measures among countries have received wide attention from scholars at home and abroad. The trade facilitation is the main driver of global trade liberalization, mainly in terms of reducing transaction costs and improving transportation efficiency for both sides of trade to expand trade.WTO introduced the Trade Facilitation Agreement in 2014,which helps to improve the level of trade facilitation in China’s main export destination countries and create a good export trade environment for China.Since 2013,President Xi Jinping has proposed the "Belt and Road" initiative with an eye on the future destiny of mankind and the development situation of China and the world.Over the past decade, the "Belt and Road" has made positive contributions to the economic development, employment and livelihood improvement of countries, and has become a popular international cooperation platform. So,China should grasp the current development opportunities, improve the quality of our export products, and transform our country from a "big trading country" to a "strong trading country".This paper analyzes the theoretical mechanism of the impact of trade facilitation on China’s export product quality through the cost-saving effect, technology spillover effect, squeeze effect and dependence effect of intermediate goods import;Later, the level of trade facilitation in the countries along the route and the quality of China’s export products were measured using principal component analysis and demand information backpropagation, respectively;after that, the impact of the increase in the level of trade facilitation in the countries along the route on the quality of China’s export products was analyzed empirically using a double fixed effects model, and regional and product heterogeneity analysis was conducted; The mediating effects model is finally applied to test the above theoretical mechanisms. Thus the paper concludes that:In the first place, according to the measurement results of trade facilitation and export product quality,it can be seen that the level of trade facilitation in the countries along the route is steadily increasing, but the level of trade facilitation in different regions is increasingly differentiated, and the improvement of export quality of different kinds of products is not the same.On a second level, the regression results of panel data show that the improvement of trade facilitation level in the countries along the route significantly promotes the improvement of China’s export product quality.Sub-regional regression results show that the increase in the level of trade facilitation in middle and high-income countries has the largest positive contribution to the quality of China’s export products;sub-product regression results show that the increase in the level of trade facilitation in the countries along the route has the largest positive contribution to the quality of export products of low-and medium-technology products. In the third place, the intermediary effect test shows that the improvement of the level of trade facilitation in the countries along the route will promote the upgrading of the quality of China’s export products through the cost-saving effect of imported intermediate goods and the technology spillover effect, and will also hinder the upgrading of the quality of China’s export products through the squeeze effect and the dependence effect. In line with the above analysis and conclusions, enhancing the trade facilitation level of the countries along the route plays a crucial role in promoting the upgrading of China’s export product quality. So as to further promote the development of trade between China and the countries along the route, this paper puts forward the following policy recommendations: first, continue to strengthen trade cooperation with the countries along the route;second, increase investment in R&D and promote technological upgrading;third, explore the potential of regional trade and optimize the layout of export markets;fourth, actively encourage and guide enterprises to complete AEO advanced certification. |
