The development of digital economy is a strategic choice to grasp the new round of technological revolution and new opportunities for industrial change,and accelerating the process of digital development and building a digital power has become the distinctive background of the times in China.As a pillar industry of traditional manufacturing and basic agriculture,the fertilizer industry should take up the mission of accelerating digital transformation and enhancing its core competitiveness with digital transformation as the driver.This paper adopts a case study approach,takes Heartland Fertilizer as the research object,analyzes the motives and paths of digital transformation in fertilizer enterprises based on synergy effect theory,organizational change theory and process reengineering theory,studies the impact of digital transformation on Heartland’s performance from four dimensions of balanced scorecard,and explores the factor grouping that affects the effectiveness of digital transformation in fertilizer industry based on fs QCA.The study found that:(1)internal drivers such as low management efficiency and difficulty in meeting customers’ differentiated needs and external drivers such as increasing maturity of digital technology,national policy support,and changes in the industry environment jointly drive Xinlianxin’s digital transformation;(2)Xinlianxin’s digital transformation path is divided into three directions,including establishing a big data platform for agriculture,fully integrating and upgrading the digital management system,and innovating the production and marketing model with digital marketing;(3)the digital transformation path is divided into three directions,including establishing a big data platform for agriculture,fully integrating and upgrading the digital management system,and innovating the production and marketing model with digital marketing.(3)Digital transformation drives the company’s performance improvement.In the financial dimension,digital transformation has improved Heartland’s profitability and operational capacity;in the customer dimension,digital transformation has improved Heartland’s market share and brand value;in the internal process dimension,digital transformation has optimized Heartland’s business processes;in the learning and growth dimension,digital transformation has enhanced Heartland’s employee training and R&D investment;fs QCA results show that companies of different sized companies have different groupings for achieving highly effective digital transformation.Therefore,enterprises with the conditions can realize digital transformation and thus improve their performance by increasing R&D investment,strengthening talent pool,integrating technology and business,integrating online and offline,and building diverse digital platforms.This paper not only enriches the theoretical research results on the impact of digital transformation on the performance of fertilizer enterprises,but also provides practical cases for promoting digital transformation in the fertilizer industry.
