Abstract/Summary:
At present, the new round of information revolution is constantly improving the production organization form of the industry and reconstruct the pattern of international competitiveness,China’s foreign trade is facing new opportunities and challenges. After decades of rapid development,China’s overall industrialization level has been significantly improved, while the problems of some industries have accumulated over a long period in the process of development and become increasingly prominent: on the one hand, there is a serious “double high” phenomenon in the production capacity and inventory of heavy industries such as coal and steel;on the other hand, both the shortage of technological innovation and international competitiveness have hindered the rapid progress of China’s high-end manufacturing industry. In view of this,it is imperative for China to carry out supply-side structural reform in the industrial sector,to optimize the capacity structure to adapt to the rapid changes in demand.Taking the “One Belt One Road” initiative as a guide,a new international capacity cooperation mechanism will be built. With the vigorous development of the new generation of information technology, the formation of new digital infrastructure after traditional infrastructure, such as railways, energy, and power grids, has been accelerated, and China’s economy is transforming into a high-quality direction. The new digital infrastructure is both a basic and emerging industry, which can connect the huge investment demand with a strong consumer market. It is an important driving force to further promote the high-quality economy development,It is of great significance to strengthen trade cooperation between China and countries along the route. Therefore,The construction of new digital infrastructure is a strong support for China and countries along the route to achieve high-quality trade cooperation.Based on the combing of relevant research, this paper starts from the concept definition and theoretical basis, first analyzes the impact mechanism of new digital infrastructure on trade from the aspects of scale and quality, then introduces the development status of China’s new digital infrastructure and the current situation of trade cooperation between China and Countries along the route, and then based on the output value data of 353 listed companies in China’s industries related to the new digital infrastructure, and the panel data of China and 64 countries along the route in 2013-2019.Through the intermediary model, the impact of new digital facilities on China’s bilateral trade import and export trade of countries along the route is analyzed;drawing on Lall’s(2000)method of classifying trade products, more than 200 export products with 3-digit SITC codes are classified, the complexity of China’s export technology and international competitiveness to countries along the "Belt and Road" are measured, and the role of China’s new digital infrastructure in the quality of China’s trade with countries along the route is analyzed by using a fixed-effect model;finally, the instrumental variable method is adopted. Methods such as replacing variables validate the model. The conclusions of this paper lay the foundation for the development of China’s new digital infrastructure and the development of China’s foreign trade. The main conclusions are as follows.First,China’s new digital infrastructure plays a significant role in promoting China’s import and export trade and bilateral trade with countries along the route, but the mechanism of action is different. The impact of China’s new digital infrastructure on China’s bilateral trade and import trade with countries along the route depends on trade costs and total factor productivity, while the export trade of China’s new digital infrastructure to countries along the route mainly relies on trade costs.Second,China’s new digital infrastructure plays a significant role in promoting the technical complexity of China’s exports to countries along the route.Further by categorizing export products,it can be found that,China has a significant role in promoting the export technical complexity of agricultural and forestry products, clothing, textiles and footwear, motor vehicles,medium-tech engineering products and other high-tech products of countries along the route. The new digital infrastructure plays a significant role in promoting China’s international competitiveness in countries along the route.Further by classifying the export products,it can be found that the new digital infrastructure plays a significant role in promoting the international competitiveness of China’s export primary products, other low-tech products,medium-tech engineering products and other high-tech products to countries along the route.According to the empirical results of this paper, the corresponding policy recommendations are proposed:(1)Increase support for the core technologies of new digital infrastructure and promote high-quality trade development;(2)Optimize the trade business environment and promote the steady development of new digital infrastructure;(3)Build a new digital infrastructure cooperation mechanism, and promote the development of the "Belt and Road" initiative to the trend of multi-integration cooperation;(4)Innovate the basis of trade cooperation, enhance trade complementarity between the two sides, and deepen trade cooperation;(5)Improve the quality of export products, achieve double high technical content and added value of products, and enhance their price and performance advantages in the global market.
