A Research On The Evolution Of The Functions Of Sci-Tech Libraries

With the introduction of China’s strategy of developing a country with science and technology and a strong nation with talents,the importance China attaches to the development of science and technology has been increasing.As a special library for science and technology,science and technology libraries can play a key role in the dissemination of scientific and technological information,the support of scientific and technological research projects,and the cultivation of scientific and technological talents.However,there is currently a lack of research on sci-tech library and its’ functions in China,and the public’s understanding of sci-tech library is severely lacking,with little or no knowledge of their attributes,positioning,content and functions.Therefore,this paper combines historical research methods,using historical literature survey and documentary research methods,through the study of ancient books,historical documents and other documents,to summarise and innovate the definition and characteristics,connotation and extension of sci-tech library,summarise and summarise the background and functions of sci-tech library in various periods,and analyse their similarities and differences and their development.It also analyses the similarities and differences between the functions of sci-tech library and their development patterns,and summarises and analyses the future development trends of the functions of sci-tech library in the light of the current development status of the functions of sci-tech library.This paper is divided into six chapters.Chapter 1,the Introduction,focuses on the research background of the function of sci-tech library,the significance and purpose of the research and the relevant research developments at home and abroad.Chapter 2 examines the definition of a science and technology library and its innovation.Chapter 3 analyses the functions of sci-tech library in various eras,arguing that the functions of ancient sci-tech library include the functions of collecting,collating and preserving ancient scientific and technological texts,the functions of lending ancient scientific and technological texts,the functions of science and education in academies,and the functions of promoting ancient inventions and creations;modern sci-tech library have the functions of concentrating and preserving cost-effective and high-potential scientific and technological literature,the functions of traditional scientific and technological literature services,the functions of indexing scientific and technological information catalogues,and the functions of supporting The modern sci-tech library have the function of organizing specialized science and technology literature,the multiple(institutional)functions of sci-tech library,and the function of library education.Chapter four of this paper analyses the evolution of science and technology library functions over time and the laws of their development,arguing that the way in which science and technology library functions are realised will develop with technological progress,that the broadening of functions will change with the increase in public demand for scientific and technological information,that social education functions will continue to increase with the progress of the times,and that the increase in institutional functions will change with the requirements of the times.In Chapter 5,this paper combines theory and practice to investigate the future functional development trends of sci-tech library,arguing that their science and technology promotion functions will continue to develop,their leisure and entertainment functions will arise and be enriched,their commercial functions will continue to develop,and their technology transfer function will continue to mature.Finally,in Chapter 6,the research findings are summarised and the shortcomings of the research and future prospects are presented.
