| As an integral part of the high-tech industry, integrated circuits are widely used in various fields and play a pioneering role in leading technological development. They are often referred to as the "industrial food".Due to their complex processes and high investment,ICs have become a typical product of international division of labor and cooperation under the development of globalization, and many countries have made the development of the IC industry a national strategy. However, the supply of key products in the IC industry chain has been disrupted due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitics, accelerating the "chain break" of the industry chain. In recent years, the intention of developed countries to challenge China in the field of integrated circuits has become increasingly evident, and China’s IC trade deficit is significant and continues to expand, posing significant challenges.China, the United States,Japan, and South Korea,as the primary exporters and importers of IC products, hold a significant market share and exert considerable influence. The international competitiveness of trade is a crucial indicator of measuring a country’s industrial development.By studying the international competitiveness of IC trade and the factors influencing it in China, the United States,Japan, and South Korea,we can better understand China’s actual level of IC trade international competitiveness, identify the problems of China’s IC trade, and propose countermeasures that can help China build an independent and controllable IC industry chain, reduce the IC trade deficit, and enhance the international competitiveness of IC trade. This thesis is centered on the international competitiveness of China’s IC trade and is divided into six parts.First, the research background, significance, content and methodology of this thesis are introduced, and the relevant literature in the field of integrated circuits at home and abroad are sorted out.Second,it introduces the relevant theoretical foundation and the influence mechanism of the factors affecting the international competitiveness of IC trade.Third, the current situation of import and export trade of ICs between China, the United States,Japan and Korea is analyzed and compared in terms of export volume and product structure, import volume and product structure and trade balance.Fourth, the MS,TC,RCA and CA indices of IC trade between China, the US,Japan and Korea are calculated, and the international competitiveness of IC trade of the four countries is comprehensively evaluated and analyzed by the entropy value method.Fifth, based on Porter’s diamond model,a system of influencing factors variables including capital factor, technology factor, demand condition factor, related and supporting industry factor, and government factor is constructed.By constructing a panel regression model, the effect size of six variables, namely fixed capital,R&D intensity,Internet penetration rate,ICT service industry,IC manufacturing equipment and government expenditure,on the international competitiveness of IC trade was tested empirically.Sixth, research conclusions and countermeasure suggestions are proposed. The findings indicate that fixed capital,R&D intensity,IC manufacturing equipment, and government expenditure all significantly contribute to the international competitiveness of IC trade, while Internet penetration rate and ICT service industry are negatively related to it.Based on the empirical results and previous analysis, this thesis proposes countermeasure suggestions such as investing in the entire IC industry chain, emphasizing IC R&D,accelerating the development of the digital economy, increasing government purchases, and strengthening international exchange and cooperation. |
