Faced with the rapid growth of consumer demand for food in China’s food retail market and the expanding scope of the industry, there is an urgent need to improve the supply chain management of the food retail industry.More and more scholars are noticing the importance of implementing supply chain management.Domestic and international research scholars have found that companies can improve their supply chain performance by implementing supply chain management practices. And based on the current digital enterprise landscape, the number of companies adopting big data analytics is gradually increasing, and the strategic importance of combining big data analytics with effective supply chain practices is widely accepted in the information age. However, there is no clear research on the relationship that exists between big data analytics and supply chain practices and how they affect supply chain performance. Therefore, this paper considers the moderating role of big data analytics and investigates the impact on supply chain performance in the context of a company’s supply chain practices, using the food retail industry as the research target. To address the research questions, this paper defines the concepts of food retailing, supply chain practices, big data analytics and supply chain performance, based on supply chain management(SCM)theory, resource based view(RBV)theory and supply chain performance management(SCPM).The study is based on Supply chain management(SCM)theory,Resource based view(RBV)theory and Supply chains performance management(SCPM)theory to develop a conceptual model of the impact of supply chain practices on supply chain performance in the food retail industry. The study aims to analyse the role of supply chain practices and big data analytics in driving supply chain performance in the food retail industry. The relationship between six supply chain practices(strategic supplier relationship, customer relationship, information sharing, information quality, purchasing management and inventory management)and supply chain performance is investigated, and the context in which companies adopt big data analytics is considered.A survey questionnaire on the impact of supply chain practices and big data analytics on supply chain performance in the food retail industry was designed by reviewing relevant literature from home and abroad and selecting proven scales from representative literature.358 valid questionnaires were collected by distributing the questionnaire online.Using information provided by managers from 358 companies in China as a sample, the collected data were assessed using SPSS software and Smart PLS software for reliability analysis, validity analysis and structural equation modelling, and the direct role of supply chain practices and the moderating role of big data analytics were examined. The findings show that different supply chain practices have a positive impact on supply chain performance, and that big data analysis has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between supply chain practices and supply chain performance, which is significant for the improvement of supply chain performance of agribusinesses and food retailing industry. Finally, this paper synthesises the theoretical and empirical findings to provide suggestions for more effective improvement of supply chain performance in the food retail industry.
