In the past decade, the information technology industry has developed rapidly.Huawei,as a top local IT enterprise in China, has played a crucial role in the process of creating the "5G era".However,in order to limit China’s information technology development, the United States has frequently imposed sanctions on Chinese enterprises since 2018,and the crackdown on Huawei has become more frequent. The "arrest of Meng Wanzhou" incident became the focal point of the United States’ sanctions against Huawei, which pushed Huawei to the forefront of international public opinion. In the 1970 s,Japan established normal diplomatic relations with the United States and then China. The strategic triangle relationship between China, the United States and Japan established through this relationship is the trilateral relationship with the greatest influence on East Asia.Talk of Huawei in Japan spiked after the United States imposed sanctions on the company.Due to geographical and historical reasons,China and Japan maintain frequent interactions in the economic and political fields, and Japan is an important force in the trilateral relations between China, the United States and Japan. In this context,it is of great significance to study how Japanese media constructs Huawei, what framework they use to interpret Huawei, what kind of reporting tendency and characteristics they have, and what the underlying motivations are.It is also the question to be explored in this paper.Yomiuri Shimbun,as a mainstream newspaper in Japanese media, has a circulation of more than 1 million, often ranking first among daily newspapers in the world. Its reports on events of international concern are particularly outstanding, and it has great social influence and industry representation. Therefore, this paper chooses the Yomiuri Shimbun as the research object, based on the framework theory, content analysis method and discourse analysis method,to investigate the relevant reports of Huawei in the Yomiuri Shimbun from 2018 to 2020.First of all, based on relevant theories, the analysis categories are designed and summarized from the five categories of report quantity, reporting stage, reporting perspective, reporting genre and reporting tone.On this basis, the report of Huawei in this period is analyzed from macro, meso and micro perspectives. At the macro level, quantitative and qualitative analysis methods are combined, text mining tool KHcoder is used to conduct co-occurrence network analysis of news samples, the news text is combined to determine the topic of the report, and the topic and stage of the report are cross-compared for statistical analysis to reach phased conclusions. At the mesoscopic level, statistical analysis is carried out from graphic elements such as major events, previous events and history. In terms of time variables, major events and previous events are highlighted, and verbal responses are emphasized. In addition, the application of graphic elements presents phased characteristics. At the micro level, the paper demonstrates the micro characteristics of discourse expression through three aspects: the source of the message, the naming of the title and the use of rhetoric. On the basis of the foregoing argument, refine the reporting framework. The Yomiuri Shimbun mainly uses seven frames for Huawei, including conflict frame, factual frame and legal frame.Through in-depth analysis of the Yomiuri Shimbun, this paper has the following conclusions: The report on Huawei in the Yomiuri Shimbun has an obvious tendency of politicization, showing an uneven and unbalanced distribution of topics; The graphical structure of news reports constructs a single cognitive paradigm of Huawei by combining graphical elements. In the text expression,it mainly focuses on highlighting the western elite information sources and emotional mobilization through metaphorical rhetoric to construct a negative cognition of Huawei’s image. The policy logic re lated to 5G in Japan,Huawei’s embedment level in Japan,Japanese social trend of thought, and Japanese media system and policy are the main reasons for this tendency. |
