With the development of information technology and the innovation of network functions, social media nowadays have penetrated into every corner of social life. The emergence of any new technology implicitly affects the psychological state and lifestyle of people, and the change of media has an incalculable impact on human life.At present, more and more users are enjoying the convenience of social media while being silently eroded by a kind of fatigue, and this has led to different degrees of mental health problems. The excessive information and socialization brought by social media are constantly intertwined with users’ behavioral habits and psychological states, and the resulting stress and negative emotions have a lot of negative effects on users, especially on Generation Z,which is represented by teenagers, and as the mainstay of society in the next 20 years, their social media fatigue problem cannot be ignored. However, there is limited research on social media fatigue at home and abroad, and the social media fatigue of Generation Z has not been systematically studied. In view of this, this study focuses on the social media use of Generation Z,the "Internet natives",and composes and analyzes the factors influencing social media fatigue and its mechanisms. At the same time, the original data were sorted out and analyzed by using the rooting theory, and the variables related to the effect of social media fatigue among Generation Z users(including information overload, social overload, role pressure, negative social comparison, privacy concerns, social media burnout, endure behavior, lurk behavior, shield behavior, exit behavior, etc.)were extracted from them, and the relationship between the variables was systematically analyzed. At the same time,a conceptual model of the factors influencing social media fatigue among Generation Z users was constructed based on the SSO "stressor-burden-outcome" model framework, and a research hypothesis was proposed based on the established model and previous research results. To test the hypotheses, the study conducted descriptive statistical analysis, validation factor analysis, and structural equation modeling using SPSS22.0 and AMOS24.0 statistical analysis tools on the data obtained from the study after designing the relevant scales and questionnaires. The results of the study showed that including information overload, social overload, role pressure, negative social comparison and privacy concerns all positively affected Generation Z’s social media fatigue, with social overload having the greatest impact on Generation Z users’ social media fatigue.Meanwhile, social media fatigue among Generation Z users triggers a series of negative usage behaviors(endure, lurk, shield and exit),among which endure and lurk behaviors are more influenced. This study further expands the scope of research in the field of social media fatigue by combining qualitative and quantitative research with Generation Z as the research object. At the same time, based on the experimental results, this study provides relevant insights and suggestions for social media platforms and Generation Z users, which provides a realistic way to promote the balance of human-computer interaction and ensure users’ social health.
