| Currently,we are in a new media society guided by knowledge.With the increasingly close relationship between science and social life,science popularization short video has become an important tool of knowledge dissemination in the Internet era.The content of science popularization is professional and public,however,the production of these videos contains complex nodes and relationships,whose communication is also limited by the platform’s recommendation algorithm rules and the audience’s knowledge level.In light of that Actor Network Theory provides a perspective to understand the process of scientific and technological innovation and knowledge production.In this study,we apply it to observe the production practice of popular science.This study use participatory observation,in-depth interview,case study to defines the main actors and their participation motivation in popular science short videos,as well as analyzes how different actors produce and disseminate science popularization short videos in the translation process.This study found that the production of popular science short videos is the result of joint efforts of various actors.First,to promote popularity,short video accounts launched science popularization production.Based on the platform rules and user feedback,the account owners perform self-Media creation labor through cooperation and negotiation.Second,the algorithm recommendation platform needs to obtain more content and users for economic and social benefits.It needs to carry out public relations activities with all sectors of society and evolving algorithm technology for reasonable information distribution.Third,short video users participate in translation with the motivation of acquiring information,and continuously provide feedback information while consuming knowledge,acting on the production side.Finally,relevant social factors are involved in the actor network and restrict the content production with their own rules.The author analyzes the difficulties faced by science popularization.Short video media has shaped a new communication environment while fragmented content may erode rationality.The discourse power of the platform dominates content production,and the interest driven will inevitably lead to new challenges.Science popularization communication caters to people’s preference for entertainment content,but the public’s scientific literacy needs to be improved.In the future,we can consider address the potential risks in from three aspects:the supervision of government departments,the cooperation between the scientific community and content producers,and the proper public opinion guidance. |
