With the increasing transparency of China’s public affairs,the mechanism of government information release and the system of press spokesman have gone through the stage from scratch,from construction to continuous improvement.Spokespersons are often the key figures in press conferences,especially in the diplomatic field.Spokespersons represent the position and attitude of the Chinese government on important international issues and represent the image of the country,the sovereignty and dignity of the state are safeguarded and their role in the regular press conference is therefore of paramount importance.Scholars in China generally study diplomatic discourse from the perspectives of pragmatic strategy,question-and-answer strategy,narrative strategy,and so on.Based on this,the paper will take the multi-modal discourse analysis as the scientific research perspective,and take the text and video content of the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Regular press conference as the research corpus,this paper makes a systematic analysis from three aspects: the language mode,the paralanguage mode of the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the regular press conference,and the multi-modal content presentation of the short video format of the regular press conference,to explore the effect and significance of the multi-modal analysis of the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in shaping the national image,transmitting the national position and building the national identity,and to proceed from the perspective of multi-modal discourse analysis from the perspective of external communication,put forward some suggestions and thinking on how to carry out the external communication better.The thesis consists of six parts.The introduction is divided into four sections.Firstly,it explains the background and significance of the study and explains the reasons for the selection of the topic.Secondly,it combs the research and theoretical achievements of the application of diplomatic discourse and multimodal discourse analysis in the diplomatic field at home and abroad,is the introduction of the research method of this paper,and clarify the innovation and shortcomings of the paper.The first chapter is divided into two sections.The production of multimodal discourse begins with contextualization.Therefore,this paper first analyzes the context of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Regular press conference,including cultural context and situational context.The routine press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was born in the macro-cultural context,and the specific context of the routine press conference was determined by the scope,tenor and mode of discourse.The second chapter is divided into two sections,mainly from the words,idioms,rhetoric aspects of the Foreign Ministry’s regular press conference speakers language modal analysis.The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveys the Chinese voice and attitude to the foreign media and the international community through the use of emotive words and idioms as well as certain rhetorical strategies.The third chapter is divided into three sections,which mainly analyzes the speaker’s paralanguage modal system in the daily press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the aspects of phonetic features,facial expression language and body language.Phonological idiosyncrasy conveys the speaker’s inner mood,and facial expression and body language assist in the communication of discourse meaning,which is an indispensable modal system in the construction of multi-modal discourse in regular press conferences.The fourth chapter is divided into two sections,mainly on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Regular Press Conference Short Video Format Media Presentation Analysis.It is found that the short video content of the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is mainly composed of several media elements: simultaneous sound,subtitling,background sound and dynamic video of the spokesperson In the Internet age,the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs no longer appears only in the traditional media,but in social media platforms such as short video,creating a new media communication matrix,shaping a new media image,and strengthening two-way communication with users,mobilize the user’s emotional identity,trigger emotional resonance,so that the spokesman in the new media context for the better delivery of the Chinese voice.The fifth chapter is divided into three sections.The different modes of the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinate and complement each other to form a multi-modal discourse.The multimodal discourse of the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs carries on the meaning construction in three aspects: shaping the national image,clarifying the national position and constructing the national identity.Finally,through the research and discussion on the multimodal discourse analysis of the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,in order to further improve the effect of external communication,the author has made three universal considerations: Using multiple modes to assist information transmission,enhance the "personalized expression" of discourse,open up new channels for publicity.
