Research On The Function Of Collective Memory Construction Of TV Reading Programs

Under the cover of new media culture,reading culture seems to be becoming history.The wave of consumerism makes the public coerced by materials.Although new information continues to emerge,people’s vision is more blocked due to the scarcity of high-quality content and the shaking of social responsibility of mass media driven by commercial interests,and fall into the false prosperity brought by entertainment.In this context,collective memory is in danger of being lost.The emergence of TV reading programs means the awakening of the sense of responsibility of some media.The birth of The Reader is the most powerful proof.Its function of collective memory construction shows the profound connotation of TV reading programs.Therefore,this thesis makes a specific analysis of the 31 programs of The Reader,including 12 episodes in the first season,12 episodes in the second season and 1-7 episodes in the third season(not yet finished).Based on the relevant theories of collective memory,this thesis studies how the program touches the deep needs of society,so as to construct collective memory,and combs the details of the realization of the collective memory construction function of the program,in order to provide some reference for other programs.Firstly,this thesis expounds the social background of realizing the collective memory construction function of TV reading programs,analyzes the current social context of TV reading program,including four aspects: the current situation of industry development,the crisis of social cultural identity,the lack of public spirit and the social responsibility of media,and introduces the development of TV reading program The Reader,by showing the original creation and general social influence of the program,this thesis shows the reason why it is a representative case of this study.After that,this thesis studies the media and cultural foundation of The Reader,first consider the "chemical reaction" after the combination of books and television from the perspective of media change,and then consider the integration of elite culture and mass culture from the perspective of culture.Then it expounds the path to realize the function of program collective memory construction,that is,the "field of memory" created by cultural symbols and spatial situations awakens the audience’s potential memory.The memorial ceremony condenses the scattered individuals into an "imaginary community",so that people can share their memories in a solemn atmosphere.Release the power of emotion to achieve spiritual resonance also helps the program to realize the construction of memory.In the above process,collective memory is endowed with profound connotation.From the micro and macro perspective,it is the modern interpretation of the traditional ideas of "self-cultivation","family harmony" and "governing the country".From the perspective of the past and the present,in addition to reproducing historical stories,it also shows the vision of the times in the process of connecting reality.From the perspective of humanity and nature,it brings back the traditional culture,art and ecological protection concept to the audience.The presentation of collective memory in The Reader helps to spread the mainstream values of society and enhance social cohesion and identity.In the narration of personal experience,social experience is transmitted in different times and gives some inspiration and guidance to social members.Reading classical literature can arouse cultural consciousness and promote the inheritance of excellent culture through a strong cultural atmosphere.Of course,the above does not mean that the application of the collective memory construction function of the program has been fully mature,and we still need to treat it rationally.Therefore,this thesis reflects on the shortcomings in the construction of collective memory.Fragmented individual narration leads to confusion of memory,and excessive focus on emotion may hinder the full expression of literary essence,which may affect the continuity of collective memory.
