Application Of Narrative Therapy To Improve The Quality Of Life Of Patients With Advanced Cance

For the past decade,cancer has been regarded as one of the most powerful enemies to human health.Because of the long treatment period and high metastasis rate,many cancer patients have to face many negative emotions such as depression,anxiety and fear during the treatment process.However,currently most hospitals in China can only focus on treating cancer itself,while few pay attention to the emotional problems and quality of life of cancer patients.How to better intervene cancer patient’s dilimma,integrate care and respect for patients into the whole medical process,so as to improve the quality of life and self-efficacy of cancer patients is not only the pursuit of both doctors and patients,but also a major challenge in the field of social work practice in China.In this study,from the theoretical perspective of narrative therapy,a new paradigm of social work practice,a female patient J with advanced rectal cancer in G hospice was selected as the study subject,and the combination of the Oncology Patient Quality of Life Rating Scale,the EORTC QLQ-C30 Quality of Life Measurement Scale and the Self-Management Efficacy Scale for Cancer Patients CSUPPH three scales were used as measurement tools to conduct a case study of the low quality of life dilemma that existed in this patient.The social worker understood the patient’s life experience through his self-report,found and analyzed the oppression of the mainstream narrative on the self-narrative,assisted the patient in deconstructing the problem narrative and problem externalization,explored the unique events in the patient’s life story,and guided her to view life from a different perspective,thus encouraging the patient to reshape her life story,and invited others to witness the patient’s change,helping the patient to consolidate a positive new life story.The author found by the scale before and after the test data,interview records and intervention effect analysis that narrative therapy was indeed effective in enhancing the quality of life of patient with advanced cancer,and the patient’ s negative emotions improved,her self-efficacy was enhanced,and she rethought their life values and pursued a more comfortable and open way of life.In this way,the author hopes that society will gradually tear off the sensitive label of cancer patients,pay attention to cancer education,and create a more friendly and tolerant social environment for cancer patients.
