In recent years, cervical cancer has become highly prevalent in China. The disease itself, treatment modalities and processes have affected the lives of cervical cancer patients in many ways, and the quality of life of cervical cancer patients is generally low.The treatment of cervical cancer is long and complicated, and the patient’s role breaks the role balance in the patient’s previous social state, which makes it difficult to adapt to the role change for a while and generates role disorder, manifested as psychological anxiety and depression, and reduced cooperation with medical treatment, which is not conducive to the early recovery of patients and the guarantee and improvement of the quality of life of cervical cancer patients. Some patients showed obvious negative tendencies during treatment, which also increased the work burden for medical and nursing staff.During the internship, the head nurse of the department paid special attention to such patients as a key target and sought professional help and services from medical social workers. This paper focuses on the role dysfunction of cervical cancer patients. The researcher used the cervical cancer inpatients contacted in the gynecologic oncology department as the subjects of the study and intervention, the interview method, participant observation method and questionnaire were used to understand the manifestations of role dysfunction of cervical cancer patients, including the three areas of the conflict between family role and patient role, conflict between professional role and patient role and conflict between healthy person role and patient role. The negative effects caused by role dysfunction are tension and anxiety, high psychological stress and fear of disease and loss of confidence in treatment. Two typical cases were selected for the intervention, analysis and comparison. An attempt was made to explore the applicability and effectiveness of narrative therapy intervention for cervical cancer patients with role dysregulation problems.Through techniques such as excavating the original narrative, externalizing the problem, exploring special meaningful events, and reconstructing positive narratives,we help the caseworker reconstruct the old story and create a new healthy story to enhance the caseworker’s perception and ability to play the role of self;we used witnessing change techniques to assist the caseworker in gaining support from significant others, enhancing personal achievement and confidence, and consolidating the new narrative.Through the study, the narrative therapy model was found to be feasible in addressing the role dysfunction of cervical cancer patients, and positive results were achieved. The conflicts between the different roles of the clients and the patient’s role were resolved, the focus was on the patient’s role during hospitalization, the confidence in treatment was restored, the positive treatment was accepted, and the negative effects arising from the role dysfunction disappeared. However, narrative therapy interventions for cervical cancer patients have some shortcomings, such as requiring clients to have strong self-awareness,difficulty in forming a fixed service structure, and high demands on social workers’ abilities, which make narrative therapy interventions cannot be applied to all cervical cancer patients without discrimination.By reflecting and summarizing the whole research process, some suggestions were made to combine other helping theories, apply helping methods and techniques flexibly, focus on equal status with the client, and enhance the helping effect.
