The treatment of cancer patients has always been a significant social concern due to the characteristics and hazards of cancer.Although many cancers cannot be completely cured, advancements in medical technology and society have prolonged the survival period of cancer patients.Additionally, there has been an increase in the awareness of physical examination, resulting in a higher rate of early cancer detection. Thus, today’s society must pay more attention to cancer rehabilitation patients and expand help after treatment, specifically related to their quality of life.Against this backdrop, this paper adopts a case study and case work methods from the perspective of social work.Firstly, the author selected six cancer rehabilitation patients for the case study and conducted qualitative research using the participatory observation and unstructured interview methods. The study explored the present situation and predicaments of the six patients’ quality of life across four dimensions: physical, psychological, social, and social function, and analyzed the factors influencing the patients’ quality of life. The study found that the quality of life of the six cancer rehabilitation patients changed across the four dimensions before and after the illness, and the factors affecting the quality of life were analyzed in detail from three aspects: individual, environment, and society.Notably, the cognitive behavior of the individual had a significant influence on the quality of life.Subsequently, the author selected appropriate clients from the six cancer recovery patients and used cognitive-behavioral therapy(CBT)to carry out case work. The case intervention process was divided into seven stages: establishing a professional relationship, recognizing bad cognition, correcting bad cognition and behavior, consolidating good cognition and positive behavior, expanding the social network, seeking social function, and closing the case. The aim was to help cancer patients face their life after treatment and recovery correctly, assisting them in recovering, maintaining, and even improving their quality of life. After the intervention, the total score of quality of life and all dimensions were improved, among which the score of role function, social function and mental health increased by more than 30 points, and the intervention effect was the most significant. At the same time, the patient’s anxiety and depression symptoms were significantly reduced, the scores of physical symptoms were also reduced, among which the score of sleep difficulty was the most obvious.
