Effective response to emergencies for the fresh produce supply chain is not only a practical issue related to its own survival and development,but also an urgent need to ensure fresh produce’s stable supply in the market.However,during the actual emergency response,the fresh produce supply chain often faces the dual test of damage to existing resource structure and sudden change in consumer demand,which results in the fresh produce supply chain trapped in the vicious circle of inefficiency in dealing with emergencies and sluggish response to consumer demand.In addition,although blockchain,as an emerging technology,has shown great application prospects in the field of fresh produce supply chain.Limited by practical conditions,such as lack of experience and high cost,the effect of fresh produce supply chain adopting blockchain on emergency response is unsatisfactory.In the context,this paper adopts the case study method,selects the fresh produce supply chain of Alibaba and JD as typical cases,analyzes the practical process of the fresh produce supply chain dealing with emergencies,and proposes the realization mechanism of blockchain-enabled fresh produce supply chain to deal with emergencies.The purpose of this paper is providing theoretical guidance for the application of blockchain to improve emergency management in the fresh produce supply chain.First of all,for the rapid response of fresh produce supply chain using blockchain to deal with emergencies,this paper analyzes the emergency response process of Alibaba’s fresh produce supply chain.By deeply revealing the mechanism of blockchain in the two periods before and after COVID-19,this paper proposes a rapid emergency response mechanism of the fresh produce supply chain driven by blockchain from the perspective of dynamic capabilities theory.It is found that this mechanism incorporates both the normalization of emergency resource management mechanism and the dynamic response capability driving mechanism,indicating the dynamic continuity of emergency management in the fresh produce supply chain.Meanwhile,the fresh supply chain has formed two kinds of dynamic emergency response capabilities based on the blockchain,accelerating the establishment of a comprehensive emergency response system.Then,for the fresh produce supply chain further using the blockchain to realize the docking of production and consumption of fresh produce under emergencies,this paper analyzes the practical process of JD’s fresh produce supply chain using blockchain to build the emergency capability of production and consumption docking.By focusing on the blockchain empowerment and the key influencing factors in the docking of production and consumption,this paper proposes a blockchain-enabled production and consumption docking mechanism for fresh produce from the perspective of resource orchestration theory.It is found that the fresh produce supply has formed two production and consumption docking modes,including the distributed community sales model and the targeted direct sales model,in order to adapt to the staged characteristics of the continuous evolution of emergencies.Meanwhile,Under the dual empowerment role of information aggregation and trust co-construction played by the blockchain,there are different realization paths of the production and consumption docking of fresh produce supply chain.
