China’s tourism industry is booming,and the quality of tourism education personnel training needs to be improved accordingly.In order to meet society’s demand for high-quality tourism talents,secondary colleges and universities should adopt effective teaching methods to improve students’ professional competence.The case teaching method has the characteristic of linking theory with practice,and this teaching method helps to promote students’ overall development and improve the quality of teaching.However,due to the lack of standard case development methods and practices,the adaptability of teaching cases developed by secondary institutions to tourism service and management majors and secondary students needs to be strengthened.This is both an important bottleneck restricting case teaching in secondary colleges and a practical problem that needs to be solved.This study adopts the literature research method,questionnaire survey method and experimental method to conduct the research.Based on the review and integration of relevant literature,the relevant theories of case development are elaborated.Through a questionnaire survey on the current teaching situation of the middle-level"Tour Guide Business" course,it is found that the learning ability,motivation,classroom participation and self-efficacy of middle-level students need to be improved.The cases currently used in the classroom are not well adapted to secondary school students and the profession,and there is a lack of standardized case development methods.Based on this,the objectives,principles and methods of case development are clarified.Taking the core skills course of the secondary tourism profession,Guide Business,as an example,the teaching cases are developed according to the training programme and curriculum objectives of the secondary school.And two classes of senior two students of secondary tourism majors were selected as the experimental class and the control class for field case teaching research.The case teaching was designed and practised in five aspects:analysis of teaching materials and learning conditions,formulation of teaching objectives,development of teaching cases,design of case teaching process,evaluation and reflection.The validity and feasibility of the case teaching was verified through two aspects:objective performance evaluation and learning effect evaluation.Finally,a statistical analysis was conducted with the help of SPSS to conclude that the reasonable use of the case teaching method in the secondary classroom can effectively improve the classroom teaching effect and students’ comprehensive ability.This study is intended to provide ideas and references for the development and teaching of case studies in secondary tourism services and management.The use of case teaching method in the secondary classroom is conducive to improving the teaching effect and students’ classroom satisfaction,cultivating students’ divergent thinking and exploration spirit,improving the quality of training applied talents in secondary tourism majors,and promoting the quality of secondary education and better development of tourism as well.On the basis of this study,it is hoped that it will enable secondary teachers to correctly understand the important role of cases in the teaching process and improve the case development and teaching ability of secondary teachers.
