For five thousand years,patriotic education has historically been valued and has occupied a non-negligible place in the education system.With the dawning of a new era of social advancement in China,the prominence of patriotic education continues to be highlighted and is highly valued by the Party and the State,and patriotic education is also absorbing new connotations and diversifying its forms and attributes.As the reform and liberalisation continues,the country’s social ideology is constantly being updated and diversified.Junior high school students,with their worldview,outlook on life and values not yet fully formed,are susceptible to the increasingly sophisticated environmental situation at home and abroad,weakening patriotic feelings and inappropriate behaviour,which have a significant impact on the ideology of our youth.As the principal force behind the future development of the country,young people are the foundation for the progress of the country and the prosperity of the nation.Strengthening patriotic education is essential for cultivating students’ ideology and value perspectives,forming a positive and effective direction to guide them.The Outline for the Implementation of Patriotic Education in the New Era places the emphasis on patriotic education on the young people,and to fulfil the role of the principal channel of the Morality and Law curriculum,patriotic education in junior high schools must be implemented with emphasis on Morality and Law in junior high schools.Carrying out patriotic education in the syllabus helps ensure that students develop patriotic sentiments in a strong learning atmosphere and become a new youth with patriotic beliefs.It is very relevant to implement patriotic education in the junior high school Morality and Law curriculum.This paper,in the background of the new era,investigates and researches the situation of patriotic education in pedagogic practice from the middle school Morality and Rule of Law course,makes an extensive exploration and analysis of the current situation and the reasons for patriotic education in the actual teaching process,and presents specific strategies on the basis of the analysis of the current situation and the factors for patriotic education.Apart from the introduction,the paper consists of three main parts.In the first part,the discussion on the basic theory of patriotic education is conducted.Firstly,on the basis of combing through the relevant national and international literature on the education of patriotism,the basic notion of patriotism and patriotic education is made clear;secondly,by studying the teaching and learning materials,the education content of patriotism in the teaching materials is examined and catalogued,on the basis of which it is presented in the format of a list,and the correlating core qualities are being analysed;again,the significance of undertaking patriotic education is analysed and discussed.In the second part,the investigation explores the problems of patriotic education in the development of the Morality and Law curriculum in junior high school and the problems’ causes.Through a questionnaire survey of junior high school students and interviews with some teachers,the existing problems in patriotism education are found: some teachers of Civics and Political Science do not dig into the material and study it to a sufficient degree,lacking in-depth explanations;in the process of carrying out patriotism education,some teachers do not choose appropriate teaching method according to the different teaching contents and use a single teaching method;some teachers conduct patriotism The assessments of patriotic education by some teachers are still based on grades and lack of observation and evaluation of students’ daily behaviour and other aspects.At the same time,we will analyse and explore the following reasons for the occurrence of the problems: the influence of exam-oriented education,the comparatively backward educational philosophy,the lack of in-depth exploration of patriotic education content,and the homogeneity of teaching evaluation methods.The third part is a discussion of strategies for strengthening patriotic education in curriculum teaching.The problems that are presented in the second part are analysed and strategies are unfolded in the following aspects: enhancing teachers’ professionalism in ideological and political education and nurturing professional competence;enriching teaching contents and digging deeper into rich teaching resources;using teaching methods in accordance with teaching contents appropriately and improving flexibility;and optimizing the evaluation system of patriotic education and choosing appropriate evaluation methods.In addition,some teaching and learning cases are shown in the text,hoping to provide some added value to the development of patriotic education in the junior high school Morality and Law course. |
