Study On The Construction Of Media Image Of China’s Veterans

The presentation of the media image of typical veterans has important significance for the future development of military personnel.The image of veterans is related to the image of the army,the image of the country and social stability.By analyzing the media image of veterans,it can not only reflect the fine tradition and style of the army,but also help improve the management image of the country and the government,and has important significance in enhancing people’s identification with the military and improving the relationship between the military and the people.With the media integration going deeper,the army officers and soldiers have more and more frequent contact with outside information,and the channels and values of information are becoming more and more diversified,which makes the army face unprecedented opportunities and challenges when reporting on typical figures.The traditional mainstream media of the army,led by PLA Daily,has an important role to play in spiritual leadership,cohesion,and role model demonstration by innovating the reporting mode of typical figures of retired soldiers and improving their reporting strategies.This paper examines the reports on veterans in PLA Daily from 2000 to 2022,with the aim of analyzing the media image constructed by the newspaper for the group of veterans and its construction process.The study uses content analysis to code the sample and obtain the overall presentation of the PLA Daily’s reports on veterans,and explores the construction process of its media images from the textual and contextual perspectives respectively through Van Dijk’s discourse analysis.The media image of the military,the promoter of public welfare,the builder of grassroots development and the practitioner of industrial power.In this regard,the author takes two dimensions from history and reality,and believes that the main reasons affecting the construction of media images of veterans are: the diversified development of veterans encouraged by national policies,the multiple filters that are hard to be erased in the context of historical contributions,the cultivation of excellent reserve talents in the military construction and development,and the moral orientation of soldiers’ true colors in the process of social development.It is found that the media have serious problems of modeling and uniformity in image shaping,"labeling" the image and deviating from the comprehensive truth,as well as outdated topics and lack of contemporary characteristics in reporting.In response to these problems,this paper argues that PLA Daily should make efforts to improve typical reports,including diversifying the reporting mode,constructing a realistic three-dimensional image and exploring the new era characteristics of the typical,so as to shape a more diversified,realistic and personalized image of veterans.
