Government trust is an important manifestation of the relationship between government and people, which is of great significance to political stability and social development.Maintaining public trust in government is an important political goal of our country, and social security is an important means to solve social problems and achieve political goals by using economic methods.Social security service satisfaction reflects the public’s need for social security services to some extent, and also reflects the level and ability of social security services provided by the government. At present, many studies have explored the impact of public service satisfaction and social security services on government trust, but few studies have focused on the relationship between public satisfaction with social security services and government trust or its influencing mechanism.Based on the data of China Social Survey in 2019,this study examines the relationship between public satisfaction with social security services and government trust, and explores the mediating role of social justice and subjective well-being.The results show that:(1)Social security service satisfaction is positively correlated with government trust;(2)For both the overall government trust and the government trust at the central, district and town levels, the impact of social insurance service satisfaction on government trust is stronger than that of social assistance service satisfaction and social welfare service satisfaction, among which the impact of social assistance is the weakest;(3)With the decline of government level, the positive impact of social security service satisfaction on government trust is gradually increasing.Compared with high-level governments, the public’s social security service satisfaction has a lower impact on towns and districts;(4)Social security service satisfaction can predict government trust indirectly through social justice, subjective well-being and the chain mediating effect of the two.Based on the empirical results,in order to enhance the public’s trust in the government, especially the grass-roots government, this study puts forward the following policy recommendations:(1)vigorously develop social insurance and enhance the government’s social security service ability;(2)Promote the construction of grassroots departments and improve the level of social security services at the grassroots level;(3)Pay attention to public psychological perception and respond to the needs of public social security services.
