China and Papua New Guinea officially established diplomatic relations in 1976.Since the establishment of diplomatic relations,the two countries have carried out a number of cooperation in political,economic and cultural fields and achieved fruitful results.In this context,Chongqing Normal University and Papua New Guinea University of Science and Technology established the first Confucius Institute in Papua New Guinea,and sent the first batch of Chinese teachers to teach.In order to improve the cross-cultural adaptation ability of Chinese language teachers visiting Papua New Guinea and promote the development of Chinese language teaching in Papua New Guinea,this article takes four Chinese language teachers who first went to the Confucius Institute of Papua New Guinea University of Science and Technology as the research subjects.Based on Ward and Black’s cross-cultural adaptation theory,observation and interviews are conducted,and NVivo qualitative analysis software is used to statistically analyze the collected materials,This paper studies the cross-cultural Adapted process process of Chinese teachers in PNG.Summarize their cross-cultural adaptation types into social and cultural adaptation,work adaptation,psychological adaptation,and language adaptation,and explore the influencing factors of cross-cultural adaptation.Based on the research,targeted suggestions are proposed for selecting training units,Confucius Institutes,and Chinese language teachers.Provide cross-cultural adaptation assistance for Chinese language teachers who will go to Papua New Guinea in the future,so that they can smoothly carry out Chinese language teaching and promotion work.The main conclusions of this article are as follows: Firstly,overall,Chinese language teachers in Papua New Guinea have encountered the most problems in job adaptation,mainly reflected in their lack of adaptation to the teaching objects and environment;In terms of social and cultural adaptation,transportation and religious and cultural adaptation are the most difficult aspects for Chinese language teachers to adapt to;Language adaptation is mainly reflected in the maladjustment to the local Lingua franca-Tok Pisin;The overall psychological adaptation is good,and there has been no significant emotional crisis.Secondly,the influencing factors of cross-cultural adaptation for Chinese language teachers in Papua New Guinea include both internal and external factors.Internal factors include psychological expectations and coping strategies,while external factors include training courses and social support.Among them,social support is a positive factor,and coping strategies are the main factors that affect cross-cultural adaptation of Chinese language teachers in Papua New Guinea.Thirdly,through investigation and research,this article proposes suggestions to improve the cross-cultural adaptation ability of Chinese language teachers in Papua New Guinea from three aspects: selection and training units,Confucius Institutes,and Chinese language teachers,such as improving the training system and paying attention to the psychological health of Chinese language teachers who will be employed..
