Unit Integrity Teaching needs to fully consider the progressive and continuous nature of English study,the overall design of teaching goals and teaching activities,the development of the key competence of students which has a positive role in promoting.The "English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)" clearly points out that the curriculum content should be selected and organized with the theme as the guide,focusing on the three thematic areas of "man and society,man and nature,and man and self",relying on discourse and presenting it in the form of units.However,in actual teaching,teachers still take "lesson hours" as the unit,and the training of students’ language knowledge and skills is the main teaching content.This teaching model has led to the fragmentation of students’ knowledge and the shallow understanding of the meaning of the unit theme.The overall teaching of primary English units based on thematic inquiry can help students construct an overall knowledge framework,deeply understand the connotation of discourse,and improve key competence.This study aims to improve the ability of teachers’ unit integrity teaching and help students deeply understand the meaning of discourse.In this study,literature research,survey research and experimental methods were mainly used.First of all,it collects and combs relevant literature on thematic meaning and unit integrity teaching,and determines constructivism theory,holistic education theory and communicative language teaching as the theoretical basis,which provides theoretical support for subsequent research.Secondly,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 150 randomly selected fifth-grade students in J Primary School,and 6 English teachers were interviewed to understand the overall teaching status of primary school English units based on thematic meaning inquiry.Thirdly,according to theoretical research and current situation analysis,the meaning of the theme is integrated into the unit integrity teaching,and the instructional design framework is determined by combining the instructional design principles.Finally,the teaching design and implementation of what would you like? is carried out in the third unit of the fifth grade English volume of the People’s Teaching Edition,and the experimental results are analyzed.The following conclusions are drawn through the research:1.Teachers have a strong sense of integrating the thematic meaning into the overall teaching of units,but in the design and implementation,they still encounter some problems,such as not digging deeply into the thematic meaning of units,insufficient ability to integrate teaching materials,and unclear evaluation effect.2.The integrity teaching design of primary school English units based on thematic meaning inquiry can be developed from four aspects: determining the teaching basis,planning the thematic teaching objectives of the units,designing single-class activities,and adopting the evaluation of "teachinglearning-evaluation integration".3.Integrity teaching of primary school English units based on thematic meaning inquiry can improve students’ English learning level,including understanding and expressing thematic meaning,overall construction of unit knowledge and improvement of performance.
