As the new curriculum reform continues to advance,how to effectively promote unit integrity teaching has become a heated topic in education.With its focus on the whole,unit integrity teaching transforms English teaching and learning from fragmentation to correlation,and has become an effective path for the realization of English subject core competencies.In the process of in-depth research on it,it was found that the application of Understanding by Design(Ub D theory)can strengthen the systemic and comprehensive nature of unit integrity teaching and provide a new idea for senior high English teaching.The core idea is to promote students’ understanding with backward design,which places assessment design before activity design.Ub D has become a new path for the implementation of English unit integrity teaching.Therefore,this study aimed to explore the application of English unit integrity teaching based on Ub D theory in senior high school and answered the following questions.1.What is the current situation of English unit integrity teaching in senior high school?2.How can English unit integrity teaching be designed based on Ub D theory?3.What are the effects of the application of English unit integrity teaching based on Ub D theory in senior high school?A teaching practice has been conducted for one semester by applying unit integrity teaching with the guidance of Ub D theory,constructivism learning theory,holistic language teaching approach,and Gestalt psychology.To understand the current situation of unit integrity teaching,this study investigated 88 senior high English teachers in Ganzhou through questionnaires.In response to the existing problems,the author analyzed the implementation path of Ub D theory in unit integrity teaching and finished the design of unit integrity teaching.Then,a teaching experiment about unit integrity teaching was carried out in two parallel classes of senior one,implementing the unit integrity teaching.Unit integrity teaching based on Ub D theory was adopted in the experimental class,while traditional teaching was adopted in the control class.In terms of the application effects,this study analyzed the changes in the learning effects of EC before and after the teaching experiment by questionnaire,the differences in test performance between EC and CC by tests,and the intuitive feelings and opinions of the students in EC about unit integrity teaching by interview.According to the results,the research found that:(1)Teachers have not developed a comprehensive understanding of the connotation of unit integrity teaching and their ability to implement unit integrity teaching needs to be improved.It can be concluded that unit integrity teaching has not been applied and implemented effectively.(2)The procedures for designing English unit integrity teaching based on Ub D theory can be identified as follows: analyzing teaching background,identifying desired results,determining acceptable evidence,and planning learning experiences.(3)The application of English unit integrity teaching based on Ub D theory had effectiveness on students’ English learning.For one thing,Students’ interests in English learning and participation in English classes were stimulated.For another,it had a positive impact on improving students’ unit learning effects and students’ ability to apply and transfer. |
