| As one of the international communication tools,English becomes more and more important in the modern world.In our country,English is a compulsory course in school education,students start to learn English from the third grade of primary school to high school,till university.English teaching in primary school is the basic stage,which is essential for the national education.Therefore,how to teach more effectively is worth exploring.In 2011,the ministry of education of the People’s Republic of China formulated the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011),which describes the basic concepts of English course,specifies the English teaching objectives,the teaching content,the requirements for the teaching,and the recommendations for how to teach English course.However,due to unbalanced development in regions and different places,the teaching concepts of many teachers in western part of China remain unchanged.The most important problem is that teachers lack holistic view to teach each unit,which means they just teach each lesson to make students learn the isolated content of the unit,and then in the next lesson,the previous teaching objectives will be ignored.As time passes,it is bad for students to learn the fragmented knowledge.The isolated English knowledge leads to students? poor language ability.Thus students lose the interest in learning English.Hence,it is urgent to solve these problems.In recently years,Unit Integrity Teaching becomes a hot topic of research in primary schools in other places in China,such as Shanghai.Main idea of the Unit Integrity Teaching is that teachers should have the integral consciousness for unit teaching.It emphasizes the internal relations of teaching materials and pays attention to the integral knowledge.It also concentrates on the link of the each part in order to improve the overall language of students.It is helpful for students to form a systematic knowledge system so that they can build relevant connections to the knowledge and improve their learning effects.In this study,the researcher will implement Unit Integrity Teaching into English class in primary school.The participants involved in the study are from Bai Lu Yuan Center Primary School of Xi?an in Shaanxi province.There are 119 students in the study.They are divided into two classes: experimental class and control class.This study attempts to investigate the following questions:1).Students? interest in learning English will be stimulated and improved after the application of Unit Integrity Teaching.2).Students? English grades will be improved after the application of Unit Integrity Teaching.3).English teachers in the primary school may have some problems and difficulties when implementing Unit Integrity Teaching.Through implementing Unit Integrity Teaching in the English class for 18 weeks in primary school,three instruments are to be used in this study: tests,questionnaires and interviews.Firstly,teachers and students are surveyed by questionnaires to know some aspects about Unit Integrity Teaching.Secondly,there are two tests for students and then those results would be processed by SPSS25.0.Finally,the problems and difficulties for English teachers in primary school about Unit Integrity Teaching will be analyzed.In order to achieve the expected Unit Integrity Teaching,teachers should fully interpret the unit content,disrupt and rebuild the unit content,which requires higher professional quality and so on.The research results show that students? interests are improved.The post-test mean value of the students in experimental class improved,compared to the pre-test mean.The post-test mean of students in experimental class is higher than that of the control class.The research results indicate that Unit Integrity Teaching can stimulate students? interest and improve students? English grades,which prove the teaching is effective.Through the application of Unit Integrity Teaching,it helps students to build up the English language knowledge system,optimizes English teaching in primary school,and enhances English teachers’ teaching concepts and teaching skills.The research of Unit Integrity Teaching is only applied to the English class in the local primary school in the western part of China.More attempts of the Unit Integrity Teaching can be made in other primary schools in other places,for further studies. |
