The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition)points out that the integrity of unit teaching should be strengthened.After the new curriculum reform,although the unit teaching of primary school English has made some progress,and the results are remarkable.However,in the actual primary school English unit teaching,as the consolidation and extension of the classroom,English homework has not received enough attention.In addition,the current primary school English teaching is deeply influenced by the traditional teaching mode,and there are many deficiencies in homework design.Although students are very interested in English classes,they are not interested in English homework.English homework design based on unit integrity teaching requires teachers to deeply interpret texts,refine unit themes,design unit teaching objectives and homework objectives as a whole,integrate teaching contents in an orderly manner,and design comprehensive,relevant and practical English homework.Students are guided to adopt independent and cooperative learning methods to participate in thematic significance exploration activities,so as to ensure the synchronous improvement of students’ language ability,learning ability,cultural awareness and thinking quality.This paper expounds the theoretical basis of the research from three aspects:Gestalt theory,holistic linguistics and constructivism learning theory.In view of the existing relevant research,the author conducted a three-month experimental study on two parallel classes in grade six of a primary school in Ordos.Three research hypotheses are put forward in this study:(1)Designing English homework based on unit teaching can effectively change the existing problems in English homework.(2)Designing English homework based on unit teaching is conducive to improving students’ English learning achievement.(3)Designing English homework based on unit teaching is beneficial to stimulate students’ interest in English learningThis study adopts questionnaire survey,interview and experiment methods.Firstly,the author conducts a questionnaire survey to understand students’ attitudes and expectations towards English homework,as well as English teachers’ understanding and suggestions on unit teaching and unit homework.According to the results of the questionnaire,the author designs the unit English homework.Secondly,SPSS 25.0 is used to analyze the pretest and post-test data of the two sample classes.Finally,the students participating in the experiment are interviewed to verify whether the unit integrity homework could stimulate students’ interest in completing English homework and learning English.At the same time,the author summarizes four principles and five strategies for designing primary school English homework based on unit integrity teaching.The results show that designing English homework based on unit integrity teaching has significant effects on improving homework design,improving students’ interest in English learning and improving students’ English achievement.In conclusion,this study aims to provide some references for primary school English teachers when designing English homework,so as to design more scientific and reasonable English homework.
