The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary)is the first extroverted elementary Chinese learning dictionary based on the publication of the Chinese Proficiency Standards for International Chinese Language Education.The biggest feature of the dictionary is to "try to strictly control the semantic terms within the elementary vocabulary of the Chinese Proficiency Standards for International Chinese Language Education(see "Learning Dictionary · Examples").This effort makes this dictionary have a very unique value and significance,making it more suitable for junior Chinese learners than other dictionaries.However,this limitation is bound to add many obstacles and difficulties to the preparation of the dictionary,causing certain shortcomings and problems in interpretation.This article takes the The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary)as the research object.Compared with the interpretation of relevant words in the two dictionaries of A Chinese Dictionary for Learners and Teachers and the Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition)the interpretation of words in the Learning Dictionary is studied by combining quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis.(The "interpretation" referred to in this article is "interpretation" in a broad sense,which also includes part of speech determination,meaning selection,polyphonetic word processing and other aspects that are closely related to the interpretation itself).The main part of this article can be divided into five chapters.The first chapter is a study of the problem of parts of speech and meaning of words in the The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary).This chapter first defines the parts of speech and meanings of words,and compares them with the two dictionaries of A Chinese Dictionary for Learners and Teachers and the Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition),and statistically organizes the problems of parts of speech and meanings in the A Chinese Dictionary for Learners and Teachers.There are three main types of part-of-speech problems: inaccurate judgment of part-of-speech,missing parts of speech,and improper handling of part-of-speech words;there are four main types of meanings: improper determination and trade-offs of meanings,the problem of merging multiple meanings,incomplete expression of meanings,and contradictions between meanings and examples.When analyzing the problems of parts of speech and meanings,the author relies on the corpus in the corpus of HSK dynamic composition to count the number of parts of speech and meanings used in the corpus,so as to provide an important reference basis for qualitative evaluation.The second chapter is a study of the problem of paraphrased language in the The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary).This chapter analyzes the interpretive language of dictionaries in terms of both words and sentences.Comparing the definitions in A Chinese Dictionary for Learners and Teachers and Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition),under the guidance of the interpretation principles summarized by the predecessors,combined with the primary word categories and life reality divided by the Chinese Proficiency Standards for International Chinese Language Education,the problems of interpretive words are divided into four categories: improper wording,lack of key components,parenthesis problems,and super-standard words.The problem of interpretive sentences is divided into three categories: incomplete generalization,repetitive interpretation,and inaccurate expression.The definitions of words in the three dictionaries are listed in the form of tables,and the interpretation problems in The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary)are pointed out and the basis for judgment is given.The third chapter is a study of the problem of paraphrasing methods in the The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary).First of all,the author sort out and classifies the words that have problems in the way of interpretation,and divides the interpretation methods of these words into three categories: grammatical interpretation,paraphrase interpretation,and interpretive interpretation.From the perspective of grammatical interpretation,the The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary)doesn’t have the interpretation of some words with strong grammatical functions,and doesn’t express its core grammatical functions in the interpretation.From the perspective of paraphrases,a large number of words in the International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary)use synonym interpretations and antonym interpretations,but some words are not selected appropriately,and the differences between synonyms are not marked in the dictionary.From the point of view of explanatory interpretation,the accuracy of the interpretation is relatively lacking,resulting in the inability to distinguish it from other similar things according to the interpretation given in the Learning Dictionary.On the basis of comparative analysis,the author sorted out these words and gave corresponding suggestions.The forth chapter is a study of the phonetic problem of words in the The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary).There are relatively few problems about word phonetics in the Learning Dictionary,and the problems in the pronunciation of words in the dictionary can be divided into two categories: first,some polyphonic words or words have a phenomenon of low sound;second,the pronunciation of words is different when expressing different meanings,but the Lea The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary)doesn’t distinguish between them.The author compared the two dictionaries of A Chinese Dictionary for Learners and Teachers and Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition),and analyzed and sorted out the words with problems in phonetic transcription with reference to the primary syllabic table in the Grade Standard.The fifth chapter is a proposal for the compilation of interpretations of the The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary).Combined with the specific problems that arise in the interpretation of the dictionary,targeted suggestions are given from three aspects: interpretation content,interpretation language and interpretation method,hoping to promote the further revision and improvement of the International Chinese,so that it can be better applied to the study of Chinese as a foreign language in the future and become a popular Chinese learning tool.
