At present, the number of export-oriented Chinese learning dictionaries in China is increasing, while the number of dictionary users has not increased significantly.Mainly due to the lack of writing theory and practice, most of the export-oriented Chinese learning dictionaries are based on the inward-looking Chinese dictionaries, and the outward-looking features are not prominent enough.Whether it can get rid of the shackles of traditional Chinese dictionaries, meet the needs of users, and highlight the export-oriented characteristics is the key to improving the quality of export-oriented Chinese learning dictionaries. The International Chinese Learner’s Dictionary(Elementary)(hereinafter referred to as the Learning Dictionary)is a primary export-oriented Chinese dictionary newly published in 2022.This paper compares Learning Dictionary with Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition)(hereinafter referred to as Modern Chinese),and uses quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis to compare the elementary monosyllabic action verbs in the two dictionaries. From the four aspects of meaning setting, interpretation method, interpretation content and interpretation use case, whether the learning dictionary can be distinguished from the traditional introverted Chinese dictionary and highlight the extroverted characteristics is investigated. It not only provides suggestions for dictionary revision, but also provides some references for how to highlight the characteristics of export-oriented Chinese learning dictionaries and improve their practical value. The main part of this paper can be divided into four chapters. The first chapter is a comparative study of the meaning setting of learning dictionary and modern Chinese. This chapter first defines the concept of monosyllabic action verbs, and compares the 49 elementary monosyllabic action verbs in the two dictionaries from the number of meanings and the order of meanings. In terms of the number of meanings,49 elementary monosyllabic action verbs have 109 meanings in the learning dictionary and 361 meanings in the modern Chinese..The differences in the number of meanings between the two are mainly reflected in three aspects :different choices of meanings, different divisions of meanings and different functional meanings. In terms of meaning ranking, learning dictionary is based on the frequency of use, taking into account the logical connection between the meanings. Finally, based on the comparative analysis,it is believed that the learning dictionary can further optimize the meaning setting of some monosyllabic action verbs from the aspects of properly distinguishing the meanings and strengthening the connection with the teaching materials of Chinese as a foreign language. The second chapter is a comparative study of the interpretation methods of learning dictionary and modern Chinese.Firstly, the interpretation methods of the two dictionaries are divided into four categories : synonymous interpretation, definition, description and synthesis. From the perspective of synonym interpretation, the proportion of modern Chinese is higher than that of learning dictionary, but learning dictionary is mainly based on a single interpretation mode.Under this mode, the accuracy of interpretation needs to be improved. From the perspective of definition, the two are used less and the difference is not significant. In the descriptive description, modern Chinese describes the purpose of action behavior in detail, while learning dictionary focuses on highlighting the location information after the relationship object is disposed of.In addition, the learning dictionary uses a relatively simple sentence pattern and can adapt to the grammar level of Chinese learners at the primary stage. In the comprehensive formula, modern Chinese is mainly manifested in two ways of interpreting a meaning item to deepen the user ’s understanding of the meaning of the word. The learning dictionary is affected by the combination of meanings, and finally presents a combination of different interpretation methods. The two are not only different in form, but also different in essence and function. Finally,on the basis of comparative analysis, this paper mainly puts forward corresponding suggestions for the problems existing in the synonym interpretation and comprehensive form of learning dictionary. The third chapter is a comparative study of the interpretation content of learning dictionary and modern Chinese. On the basis of the division of interpretation content, the similarities and differences between the two dictionaries are analyzed.Compared with modern Chinese, learning dictionary adopts an example to illustrate the relationship object, which is easier to store and extract for the primary stage Chinese learners, and is a useful attempt from the user ’s perspective. However, due to the influence of the nature and scale of the initial dictionary, the optional range of the definition words of learning dictionary is limited, and the accuracy of some words ’ interpretation needs to be improved compared with modern Chinese. It is suggested that learning dictionary can increase the proportion of graphic interpretation by adding other modal elements to make up for the shortcomings of the text interpretation of the initial dictionary. The fourth chapter is a comparative study of the use cases of learning dictionary and modern Chinese.Compare from the number of use cases, use case types and use case content. In terms of the number of use cases, learning dictionary is far more than modern Chinese, providing more common collocation and grammatical information. In terms of use case types, modern Chinese is dominated by phrase cases, and learning dictionary is dominated by sentence cases, providing more complete contextual information. In the content of the use case, the learning dictionary can be combined with the grammar points in the level standard to highlight the basic and common use. Finally, some suggestions are put forward on the simplicity of interpreting use cases.
