| More and more attention has been paid to the role of Chinese learner’s dictionaries.We have published many Chinese learner’s dictionaries,but through many investigations and studies,we find that there are a few learners using Chinese learner’s dictionaries.In order to make learners glad to use Chinese dictionary,we should start from writing simple and easy to understand paraphrase sentences.The quality of writing paraphrase sentences is directly related to the practicability and easy to understand of the dictionary.This study conducted a detailed investigation and analysis of the definition metalanguage of the International Chinese Learning Dictionary(Primary Level),extracted the definition sentences from the dictionary and made a closed electronic corpus.By dividing,proofreading and extracting the definition sentences from the Primary Level,it made a definition glossary,and investigated and analyzed the definition conditions of the Primary Level.Then,the words with a frequency greater than 10 are defined as common words,and the parts of speech,difficulty level and polysemous meaning distribution of common words are investigated.Secondly,this study analyzed the definition sentences of the First Stage,counted the number of the various structures of the definition sentences and analyzed their language characteristics,and found that the definition sentences of the dictionary are mainly composed of words and phrases,the language is concise and the colloquial color is heavy,which is committed to the construction of legibility and understandability of the dictionary.At the same time,there are also some problems in the First Stage.By extracting paraphrase sentences of first-level words and analyzing their grammatical structure,this study finds that the grammar points used in some sentences are of a high level of difficulty,beyond the scope of students’ understanding,which may cause obstacles for learners to consult the dictionary.In addition,this study makes an investigation and analysis of the pattern of the definition language in the First Stage,and enumerates several words and sentences with obvious pattern characteristics for detailed analysis.Finally,I will summarize the characteristics and existing problems of the First Stage and put forward some suggestions on future dictionary writing,in order to improve the quality and practicability of Chinese dictionaries.Definition metalanguage is crucial to the quality and practicability of Chinese dictionaries.We hope that dictionary writers can pay attention to these problems,adopt more effective methods and techniques,and provide readers with more comprehensive,accurate and practical dictionary services. |
