Study On The Application Of The “Performed Culture Approach” In Online Chinese Language Teaching For Overseas Chinese Children

Online Chinese teaching for overseas Chinese children is in a stage of rapid development.The discussion in this field is gradually growing,but the relevant research mostly focuses on the online teaching design,classroom interaction and teaching strategies of overseas Chinese children,which lacks the discussion of Chinese children’s behavior culture,learning motivation,learning interest and learning efficiency.Based on the practice of online Chinese teaching of overseas Chinese children,the author finds that the following problems are common in online Chinese teaching of overseas Chinese children: first,neglect of behavioral culture teaching;second,it fails to provide learners with sufficient opportunities to apply what they have learned;Third,it is difficult to stimulate learners’ interest in learning;Fourth,learners learn inefficiently.A cutting-edge pedagogical theory has proved that the “Performed Culture Approach”(PCA)is effective in acquiring Chinese behavior and culture.It integrates knowledge and action,and improves learning efficiency.This study attempts to combine PCA with a special group of overseas Chinese children to demonstrate the applicability of this pedagogy to teach them online.On this basis,the overall design of online Chinese teaching for overseas Chinese children is explained,and six principles for the establishment of a hierarchical teaching goal system for Chinese children and the design of online Chinese teaching for overseas Chinese children are proposed.This includes learner-centered,real communication as the purpose,emphasizing the deep integration of language and culture,interaction and fun.It also stipulates the concepts,principles and dimensions of online Chinese teaching assessment for Chinese children under the guidance of PCA,such as emphasizing the formative test throughout the learner’s Chinese learning process.In terms of test content,more emphasis is placed on language practice.This study designed an online Chinese interactive teaching mode for overseas Chinese children based on the teaching method of PCA,which has three characteristics: first,parents of overseas Chinese children participate in all aspects of their children’s Chinese learning;second,make flexible use of digital resources and online Chinese platforms;third,deeply integrate the theory and practice of PCA teaching method into all aspects of teaching.The author also constructed “Cases” of overseas Chinese children,and applied this model to the “Cases” and teaching materials for overseas Chinese children,which demonstrated the wide application space of this model.The author conducted teaching practice on 41 overseas Chinese children with the theme of Spring Festival culture on the Wukong Chinese.Through this teaching practice,it proved that the online Chinese interactive teaching mode of overseas Chinese children based on the teaching method of PCA has outstanding advantages in the following four aspects: first,it promotes the acquisition of behavioral culture of overseas Chinese children;second,it enhances the interest and efficiency of Chinese learning among overseas Chinese children;third,it provides sufficient opportunities for overseas Chinese children to apply what they have learned;fourth,it strengthens the ties between overseas Chinese children and their families and communities.The application research of any emerging pedagogy is a gradual development process,and some problems also arises in the teaching process.The author also reflected and put forward suggestions such as participating in teacher training programs,jointly building an online teaching resource library,and constructing a behavioral culture outline under the guidance of the PCA.
