As China’s international status continues to improve,overseas Chinese learners are increasing,including a large number of Chinese children.As the target of Chinese language teaching,children of Chinese descent have two obvious characteristics: first,influenced by family factors,their Chinese listening proficiency is generally high,and they highly identify with their Chinese identity;Secondly,influenced by the general environment,even if they have the motivation to learn Chinese,they often have low enthusiasm and are even too lazy to speak up.Many children learn Chinese(including online learning)as a deliberate arrangement by parents.How to enhance the interest of overseas Chinese children in learning Chinese,overcome their fear of difficulties,correct their learning attitudes,and improve their learning efficiency has become an important research topic in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Guided by the theory of multiple intelligences and combined with our online teaching practice,this article takes 12 Chinese American children(aged 9-11 years)from Europe and the United States as teaching objects,and on the basis of a thorough investigation,attempts to design the teaching of the elementary comprehensive course He’s Learning to Cook Chinese Cuisine(selected from Volume 1 of the HSK Standard Tutorial,developed and published jointly by Beijing Language and Culture University Press and the International Chinese Language Testing Center(CTI),2014 edition).The design attempts to fully embody the advanced personalized concepts of "how to make students smarter" in the theory of multiple intelligences,and adheres to the principles of strengthening the combination of intuition and multi-channel input,unified cultivation and teaching students in accordance with their aptitude,and the principle that the theory of multiple intelligences runs through all the time;Design various teaching methods for different problems arising in the teaching process;Actively affirm the intellectual strengths of individual students in the learning process(aimed at giving full play to their subjective initiative),so as to specifically implement the principle of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude in the development of individual language intelligence,etc.In short,we strive to provide a successful teaching case,hoping to provide useful reference for the future teaching of the elementary comprehensive course of Chinese as a foreign language.This paper is divided into four parts: Chapter 1 introduces the significance of the topic and the current situation of the research;Chapter 2 gives a systematic overview of the Multiple Intelligences theory and analyses the feasibility of using the theory in a beginner’s comprehensive Chinese language class;Chapter 3presents a preliminary analysis of the beginner’s comprehensive Chinese language class based on the Multiple Intelligences theory and the teaching design in the light of its own online teaching practice;Chapter 4 is a reflection on the teaching design.Chapter 4 is a reflection on the teaching design and proposes some teaching suggestions.
