The simulated simultaneous material is the Henan Lantern Festival Gala Press Conference held on February 23,2021.The purpose of this conference was to respond to the audience’s enthusiasm for the Henan TV 2021 Spring Festival Gala,as well as to introduce the special program for the Lantern Festival. The three speakers in the conference basically spoke off script, and the phenomenon of self-repair was quite obvious, which posed a great challenge to the simultaneous interpreter. Therefore, after completing this task, the author discussed how simultaneous interpreters should respond to the multiple self-repair in the speakers’ speeches. The audience of the source language can distinguish the self-repair of the speaker and grasp the message conveyed by the speaker from them. However,if the interpreter follows the speaker closely with a large number of self-corrections when interpreting simultaneously, the audience of the target language will doubt the accuracy of the interpreter and have a poor listening experience. There are various types of speakers’ self-repair.The author here puts forward three types of self-repair that pose great challenges to this simultaneous interpreting task according to self-repair’ classification from Rieger(2003)and Levelt(1983):(1)interpreting difficulties caused by replacement;(2)interpreting difficulties caused by aborts and restarts;(3)interpreting difficulties caused by repetition. The Interpretive Theory was proposed by Seleskovitch in 1962,which illustrates that the interpreter’ s thinking process in the interpreting process goes through three stages. The second stage in the theory can guide the interpreters to meet the challenges posed by the speaker’ s self-repair.In order to cope with the challenges posed by these three types of self-repair in this simultaneous interpreting, under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory, the author summarizes the corresponding coping tactics:(1)omission or reformulation;(2)simplification and amplification;(3)omission and reformulation. At present, there have been some achievements in the research on self-repair of interpreters, but there are still few studies on how interpreters can cope with self-repair of the speakers. The author hopes this paper will be of some help to future simultaneous interpreting practice.
